One thing that is very clear about the Los Angeles Angels is their offensive firepower. Matt Thaiss drove in two runs, Taylor Ward homered, and the Angels defeated the Chicago Cubs with a 7-4 victory on Tuesday night in Anaheim.

The Angels were once trailing 4-0 and scored 7 unanswered runs, matching their longest comeback of the season as they won their second straight game. Trout and Thaiss each drove in two runs for the Angels as 4 different players drove in a run in the lineup.

Mike Tauchman gave the Cubs the early lead in the second inning, hitting a two run single to score Yan Gomes and Seiya Suzuki. Later in the inning, Matt Mervis hit a two run double that brought home Tauchman and Patrick Wisdom. Shohei Ohtani got the Angels on the board in the 4th inning with a solo home run to right field.

Brandon Drury cut the deficit to 4-2 in the 5th inning when he scored on a wild pitch. Trout then tied the game 4-4 with a two run single to center field, scoring Luis Rengifo and Gio Urshela. Thaiss then gave the Angels a 6-4 lead later in the inning with Trout and Ohtani scoring. Ward padded the lead in the 7th inning with a solo home run to left field.

Getting the start for the Angels was Tyler Anderson, who was charged with 4 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks in 5 innings pitched. The bullpen then delivered 4 scoreless innings in relief, with Jose Soriano, Jacob Webb, Chris Devenski, and Carlos Estevez doing the job, with Estevez getting the save.

Anderson broke down his start after the game, saying that "My thought process is still the same, I just feel like I’ve kind of been pitching timid in general. Probably because I’ve been struggling with my mechanics. I worry more about executing and less about attacking."

Hayden Wesneski got the start for the Cubs, getting tagged with 4 runs on two hits and a walk in 4 2/3 innings pitched. Brandon Hughes got the loss, allowing two runs without recording an out. Julian Merryweather pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings, Jeremiah Estrada allowed one run, and Michael Fulmer delivered two scoreless innings.

Cubs manager David Ross said of Wesneski and the game that "He threw the ball really well. We just didn't play the best defense behind him, and some things went awry. Offensively, we just weren't able to tack on. We had opportunities, but the fifth inning, for me, was kind of the game-changer."

Up next, the series continues on Wednesday night in Anaheim. The Angels go for the series win with Jamie Barria starting. The Cubs counter with veteran Jameson Taillon.
