Down to their last breath and losing, things turned around quick. Brandon Marsh tied the game, Kody Clemens won the game, and the Philadelphia Phillies rallied to defeat the Detroit Tigers with a 3-2 victory on Thursday in Philadelphia.

The Phillies secured a sweep of the Tigers with the win, improving to 30-32 and 3rd place in the NL East as they've won their 5th straight game. Entering the bottom of the 9th, they were losing 2-1, then tied and won the game on back to back at bats.

Scoring in this game didn't start until later than usual. Bryce Harper got it done in the 6th inning. He flew out to left field, but it was deep enough to drive in Kyle Schwarber, thus making it a sac fly and making it 1-0 Phillies. In the 8th inning, the Tigers tied the game thanks to Zack Short, who hit an RBI single to score Jake Marisnick.

When the top of the 9th came around, the Tigers jumped ahead in a surprising turn of events. Javier Baez came around to score on an RBI single from Nick Maton, making it 2-1 Tigers. In the bottom of the 9th, another sac fly, this one from Marsh, scored Harper to tie the game 2-2. Klemens then delivered the walk off single that gave the Phillies a 3-2 win.

Getting the start for the Phillies was Zack Wheeler, who got a no decision. Wheeler took a no hitter into the 8th inning, pitching 7 1/3 innings before a hit was allowed to Detroit's Tyler Nevin. Wheeler walked one and struck out 8 hitters before departing.

Wheeler said of his near no hitter that "Obviously, everybody wants to throw a no-hitter, but at the same time you have to play it smart. It’s a long season. Ultimately, we want to win the World Series. That’s what matters. That’s what I want to be there for."

In relief of the dominant Wheeler, Seranthony Dominguez finished the 8th inning but allowed a run to score on the Maton single, which ended up getting charged to Wheeler. For the 9th inning, Craig Kimbrel came on. Despite allowing a run on two hits and two walks, he got the win to improve to 4-1 this season.

Tyler Holton was the opener for the Tigers, pitching a shutout first inning. Reese Olson handled the next 5 innings in a bulk role, allowing one run on 3 hits and a walk. Chasen Shreve and Jason Foley threw a scoreless inning before Alex Lange got the loss by pitching the 9th inning.

Lange said at his locker after the game "Two opportunities to shut the ballgame down for me on this road trip, didn't come through. It's tough when the boys are grinding and you have an opportunity to win a ballgame and you let it go like that. It's tough. It's a good team and we had a chance to win a ballgame and I didn't execute."

Both teams play at home over the weekend for their next series. The Phillies start Ranger Suarez against the Los Angeles Dodgers, while Michael Lorenzen starts for the Tigers against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
