The boys in Oakland are starting to play a little better. Zack Gelof homered, Brent Rooker homered and drove in 3 runs, and the Oakland Athletics rolled over the Colorado Rockies with a 11-3 victory on Saturday night in Denver.

Over two games in this series, the Athletics offense has now scored 19 runs after an 8 run showing in game one. They've also won two straight to win the series in addition to 5 wins in their last 10 games. 3 players had multi RBI games, with those 3 combining to drive in 7 of the 10 runs.

Rooker said of the production on offense that "Coming into Colorado, we know how the ball flies, but not trying to do too much. Just stay within the approach to have quality at-bats and pass it onto the next guy. That has shown with the hits and the runs we’ve put up the last two days."

Seth Brown gave the A's a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Gelof scored on a sac fly. Jace Peterson scored on a wild pitch in the second, Tony Kemp drove in a run on a sac fly, Gelof hit a solo home run, and Rooker added a two run blast to make it 6-0 Oakland. Michael Toglia hit an RBI single in the bottom of the second to make it 6-1, and CJ Cron hit an RBI single in the 3rd to make it a 6-2 game.

Rooker drove in Gelof in the 6th inning with a sac fly that made it 7-2 A's. Ramon Laureano then made it a 9-2 game with a two run double to score Brown and JJ Bleday. Tyler Soderstrom then drove in Laureano to make it 10-2. An RBI single in the 7th by Brown made it 11-2 A's. Randal Grichuk made it 11-3 in the 8th with a solo home run for the Rockies.

After the game, Rooker said of Gelof's game that "I’ve been impressed with him offensively. He’s got a ton of power to right-center, which is a really good attribute to have. Couple that with the speed he’s shown and how he’s played good defense at second base, and he’s got a good attitude and has handled himself the right way. He’s impressed a lot of people, for sure."

Paul Blackburn took the mound for the A's, allowing two runs on 9 hits with 7 strikeouts in 6 innings, getting the win. Sam Long pitched a scoreless 7th before Tayler Scott allowed one run in the 8th. Angel Felipe worked a scoreless 9th to seal the win.

Starting for the Rockies was Chris Flexen, who allowed 6 runs on 4 hits and 6 walks in just 3 2/3 innings. Jake Bird allowed two runs in 1 2/3 innings before Brent Suter allowed two in 2/3 of an inning. Tommy Doyle allowed one run in two innings before Brad Hand pitched a scoreless 9th.

Colorado manager Bud Black said of Flexen's outing that "Six walks are not how you draw it up and he'd be the first to tell you. He's been around long enough to know that six walks will come back to get you. His stuff was fine. It looked to me like he just couldn't get comfortable throughout the outing."

Up next, the series wraps up on Sunday afternoon. Luis Medina gets the start for the A's as they go for the sweep, while the Rockies try to salvage the finale as Ty Blach takes the mound.
