Some mistakes in a game can cost you. Mookie Betts homered, David Peralta drove in a run, and the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the New York Mets with a 5-1 victory on Saturday night in Queens.

Betts was the big performer at the plate for the Dodgers, going 4 for 4 with a home run. With a high throw and a dropped pop up, the Dodgers were able to pad the lead and eventually beat the Mets, winning their 6th straight game and 7 of their last 10, taking over first place in the NL West.

Dodgers starting pitcher Tony Gonsolin said of the hot streak that "I think this lineup top to bottom, they all swing it really well. And I think it was just a matter of time before we started clicking and started rolling."

It was Betts who gave the Dodgers the lead early, hitting a solo home run in the 3rd inning to make it 1-0 Dodgers. One inning later, Brandon Nimmo got the Mets on the board, tying the game 1-1 with a solo home run of his own. It stayed that way until the 8th inning, when David Peralta reached on a high throw that scored Max Muncy to make it 2-1 Dodgers.

Brett Baty then couldn't catch a pop up in the 9th for the Mets, allowing Betts to score and extend the lead to 3-1. JD Martinez then laced a single to left center field, bringing in Will Smith to make the Dodgers lead 4-1. Peralta then punctuated the 9th inning rally with an RBI single that made it 5-1 with Muncy scoring.

After the game, Betts said that "A lot of credit to the guys. We’re playing for each other, we take the info and we have a really good camaraderie, which I’m sure you’ve seen. We show up ready to play."

Starting for the Dodgers was Gonsolin, who allowed one run on two hits and one walk, striking out 3 hitters in 5 innings. Alex Vesia, Brusdar Graterol, Caleb Ferguson, and Evan Phillips each tossed a scoreless inning of relief to lock down the win.

Kodai Senga was on the mound for the Mets, allowing one run on 4 hits and 2 walks with 9 strikeouts in 6 innings pitched. Brooks Raley pitched the 7th before Adam Ottavino allowed a run in the 8th to get the loss. Grant Hartwig and Dominic Leone pitched the 9th.

Asked about how the team has played lately, Ottavino said "Not good enough. I don’t know how else to really say it. When it comes to team play, it’s about wins and losses. We’ve lost the last four games. That’s not what we’re looking to do."

Up next, the series wraps up on Sunday afternoon. The Dodgers go for the sweep with Bobby Miller starting, while the Mets try to snap their losing streak with Max Scherzer on the mound.
