There's nothing quite like a division rival matchup. Jesse Winker drove in two runs, Victor Caratini homered, and the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Chicago Cubs with a 6-5 victory on Thursday in Milwaukee.

After previously blowing a 3 run lead, the Brewers were able to bounce back and pick up a win in the series finale, splitting the 4 game series. Thanks to the late homer by Caratini, they're also 6-4 in their last 10 games and 47-41 on the season.

Milwaukee manager Craig Counsell said after the game "Bottom of the eighth, a home run in a tie game is always a huge swing. It was a crazy series. Both teams came back, scored late and often. Good one for the fans, for sure. Great series for the fans."

Cody Bellinger gave the Cubs a 1-0 lead in the second inning, hitting an RBI double that scored Christopher Morel. It stayed that way until the 5th inning, when Joey Wiemer hit an RBI single that scored Raimel Tapia to tie it 1-1. Christian Yelich capped off the inning with a 3 run home run to put the Brewers ahead by a 4-1 score.

In the 6th inning, Bellinger cut into the Cubs deficit, making it a 4-3 score with a two run home run to center field. In the 7th, Yelich was able to score on a sac fly from Willy Adames to make it 5-3. Yan Gomes homered in the top of the 8th for the Cubs to tie the game 5-5. That set the stage for Caratini, who hit the go ahead solo home run in the bottom of the 8th to put the Brewers ahead for good.

Counsell said of Yelich's homer that "That’s a huge swing on a very, very good pitcher who’s having a great season and frankly wasn’t giving us much, and he was really locked in. And Stroman is tough to hit homers off of. So that’s just a big-time player hitting great pitches."

Freddy Peralta allowed 3 runs on 4 hits and 3 walks over 5 1/3 innings, striking out 10 hitters. Bryse Wilson finished the 6th before Elvis Peguero added a scoreless 7th. JC Mejia worked the 8th and Joel Payamps got the save in the 9th.

Marcus Stroman pitched 5 innings for the Cubs, allowing 4 runs on 4 hits and 4 walks. Daniel Palencia worked a shutout 6th inning and Mark Leiter Jr allowed a run in the 7th. Michael Fulmer got the loss by allowing the Caratini homer in the 8th inning.

The Brewers welcome the Cincinnati Reds to town over the weekend, with Corbin Burnes starting the series opener. Jameson Taillon will start for the Cubs as they head east for a series against the New York Yankees.
