Getting that type of momentum is big for a team. Elly De La Cruz homered, Nick Senzel drove in two runs, and the Cincinnati Reds defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks with a 7-3 victory on Sunday afternoon in Cincinnati.

With the win, the Reds have now won 5 straight games and swept the D-Backs at home, improving to 55-46 on the season. Up next for the Reds is a crucial series with the Milwaukee Brewers, who are first in the division. The Reds are 2-8 against them so far this season.

Senzel said of the upcoming series that "I think every series now is so important. I feel like that’s the team we’re going to be battling with until the very end. They’ve beaten us up. We’re excited to play them. We’re excited to kind of get back at them. We want another crack at them. It’s going to be a big-time series."

De La Cruz started the scoring for the Reds in the first inning, making it 1-0 with a solo home run to right field. Senzel then added a two run home run in the second inning, padding the Reds lead to 3-0. Geraldo Perdomo scored in the 5th for the D-Backs on a single and error to make it a 3-1 game. Corbin Carroll then tied the score 3-3 with a two run home run.

Jake Fraley put the Reds back in the lead in the 6th, making it a 4-3 score with an RBI double that scored Spencer Steer. In the 8th, Steer singled to right field, scoring TJ Friedl to increase the lead to 5-3. With Steer and Matt McLain on base, Christian Encarnacion-Strand drove them both home with a two run single, making it a 7-3 final.

Luke Weaver allowed 3 runs on 8 hits and one walk over 4 innings in his start for the Reds. Buck Farmer, Derek Law, Ian Gibaut, and Fernando Cruz each threw an inning before Levi Stoudt and Lucas Sims finished off the 9th inning.

Jose Ruiz pitched the first 1 2/3 innings for the D-Backs before Kyle Nelson also went 1 2/3 innings. Luis Frias pitched an inning before Tyler Gilbert allowed two runs over 2 2/3 innings. Miguel Castro pitched the 9th and allowed two runs.

The D-Backs are continuing their slide while the Reds heat back up. They've lost 4 straight games, have won just two of 10 games, and have fallen to 54-46, losing their lead on the NL West in the process.

D-Backs manager Torey Lovullo said of the skid that "It's hard to talk about the frustration we're all feeling. We all know what the record is. We know what the outcomes have been. It wasn't anything close to what we expected. We're all frustrated by that, period."

Up next, the Reds hit the road to face the Brewers on Monday, with Graham Ashcraft getting the start. The D-Backs host the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday, with Nelson taking the mound.
