Late game drama, anyone? Jarred Kelenic drove in two runs, Eugenio Suarez homered, and the Seattle Mariners defeated the Minnesota Twins with a 7-6 victory on Monday night in Seattle.

The Mariners picked up their second straight win and 6th in 10 games on Monday, while also snapping the Twins 3 game winning streak. Suarez and Kelenic each had big hits and drove in a pair of runs as the Mariners used a 4 run 5th inning to set the tone.

Mariners manager Scott Servais said that "I thought the quality of at-bat got better as the game went on. It didn’t start off so good and Sonny Gray is really good. But after we made a few adjustments, understanding that you’re not going to hit the long ball off Sonny Gray. You've got to take your singles, work your walks and we were able to do that and put a big inning together."

Carlos Correa hit an RBI double, and Alex Kirilloff added a run scoring sac fly in the 3rd to make it 2-0 Twins. Jose Caballero hit an RBI single in the 5th, followed by a bases loaded walk from Julio Rodriguez to tie the game 2-2. Kelenic then delivered a two run single that scored Caballero and Mike Ford to make it 4-2 Mariners.

Joey Gallo responded in the top of the 6th for the Twins with a solo home run. Cal Raleigh then scored on a bases loaded walk in the bottom to make it a 5-3 game. Suarez then hit a two run home run in the 7th to pad the Mariners lead to 7-3. Max Kepler cut it to 7-6 with a 3 run home run in the 9th, but the Twins couldn't score again.

Kelenic said of the hitting approach that "We just got more patient and we knew exactly what we're looking for. I was just trying to stay in the middle to the other way. I wasn't trying to hit a grand slam there. Like, it wasn't necessary."

Logan Gilbert allowed two runs on 7 hits and one walk over 5 innings to get the win for the Mariners. Gabe Speier, Matt Brash, Andres Munoz, Ty Adcock, and Paul Sewald all saw action in relief to close out the win, with Sewald getting the save after Adcock allowed the 9th inning homer to Kepler.

Sonny Gray was charged with 5 runs for the Twins, getting the loss while pitching 5 2/3 innings, allowing 5 hits and walking 4. Oliver Ortega allowed two runs in 1 1/3 innings before Jorge Lopez tossed a scoreless inning in the 8th.

Gray said of his bad inning that "It just gets frustrating, because continuously, you’re cruising, you’re cruising, and you have one inning where it blows up on you, and it’s just, it just continues to happen over and over, and it’s frustrating. I’ve got to figure it out. I mean, I’ve got to figure that out. I don’t know what that is, but I’ve got to figure it out. If not, then, I don't know."

Up next, the series continues on Tuesday night. The Mariners go for their 3rd win in a row as Bryan Woo gets the start, while the Twins try to get back in the win column with Bailey Ober taking the mound.
