There's something about these Cincinnati Reds. Matt McLain homered and drove in two runs, Spencer Steer homered, and the Reds rallied to defeat the San Diego Padres with a 7-5 win in extra innings on Friday in Cincinnati.

The win marks the 3rd in a row and 7 of 10 for the Reds, who are riding quite the wave of momentum to improve to 44-38 and first place in the NL Central. With a 2-2 score going into extra innings, a total of 8 runs were scored between both sides before the game ended.

Reds starter Graham Ashcraft said that "If it tells you how entertaining it is, I didn't leave the dugout until the ninth inning because I was like, 'OK, it's time to go do arm care now. I love getting to play with these guys every five days. I love getting to watch these guys the four days that I'm on the bench and pull for them. It's some of the most fun I've had playing this game."

The scoring didn't start until the 6th inning, when Trent Grisham gave the Padres a 1-0 lead with a solo home run. In the bottom of the 6th, Jake Fraley hit an RBI single that scored Elly De La Cruz to tie it 1-1. Tyler Stephenson hit a solo home run in the 7th to make it 2-1 Reds. The Padres tied it in the 9th on a Matt Carpenter sac fly.

Fernando Tatis Jr hit an RBI single and Juan Soto hit an RBI double in the top of the 10th to put the Padres ahead 4-2. McLain stepped up and tied the game in the bottom of the 10th with a two run home run. Gary Sanchez hit an RBI single in the top of the 11th to make it 5-4 Padres. De La Cruz tied it with an RBI double before Steer blasted a walk off two run homer.

Steer said of his walk off that "It was pretty cool that it worked out there. We think we have a win and then the call doesn’t go our way. I know I kind of said one of those moments. It was a weird situations. I probably won’t have another one in my career. You wait to see what happens."

Ashcraft allowed one run on 3 hits and two walks in 6 2/3 innings in his start for the Reds. Lucas Sims got the next 4 outs before Alexis Diaz blew a save opportunity in the 9th. Ian Gibaut pitched the 10th, while Alex Young and Dante Duarte worked the 11th, with Duarte getting the win.

Seth Lugo got the start for the Padres, allowing one run on 5 hits in 6 innings. Brent Honeywell and Nick Martinez combined to pitch the next two innings, with Josh Hader working a scoreless 9th inning. Ray Kerr pitched the 10th and Drew Carlton got the loss in the 11th.

Padres manager Bob Melvin said of the loss in extras that "We felt like we had it in our grasp a couple of times. We've had some rough ones here lately. That's as tough as it gets right there. We were one pitch away from winning the game. You've got to find some positives. There were some today. We did the little things much better today. You don't want silver linings where we are right now."

Up next, the series continues on Saturday afternoon. Brandon Williamson draws the start for the Reds, while Michael Wacha goes for the Padres.
