What a time for your first homer of the season. CJ Cron hit a grand slam, Alan Trejo homered, and the Colorado Rockies rallied to defeat the New York Yankees with a 8-7 walk off win in extra innings on Sunday afternoon in Denver.

With the series tied at a game apiece entering the finale, the Rockies came out on top in a back and forth affair to pick up the series win, just their 3rd win in 10 games. The Rockies were also down by two runs on two separate occasions, but got the big hits at the right time to pick up the win.

Rockies manager Bud Black said of Trejo's heroics that "He’s gotten some big hits for us over the last couple of years. Good for him. That was a good swing, 2-0 count, and it looked like he got a hanging breaking ball."

Michael Toglia started the scoring in the second inning for the Rockies, giving them a 1-0 lead on a solo home run. In the 6th inning, the Yankees took a 2-1 lead on an RBI single from Isiah Kiner-Falefa plus a throwing error. Anthony Volpe then scored a run on a groundout to make it 3-1. In the 8th, Cron put the Rockies ahead by a 5-3 score with a grand slam to center field.

Gleyber Torres hit an RBI single and Harrison Bader scored a run on a sac fly in the 9th for the Yankees to tie the game 5-5. In the 11th inning, Oswaldo Cabrera and Oswald Peraza hit RBI singles to put the Yankees ahead 7-5. Nolan Jones tied the game 7-7 in the bottom of the 11th with a two run home run. Trejo then hit his first home run of the season to give the Rockies a walk off win.

Trejo said of hitting the game winning homer that "It felt fantastic. It was one of those where I felt I got enough of it to get over the fence. It was a hanging slider and I put a good swing on it."

Chase Anderson pitched 5 shutout innings for the Rockies while getting a no decision. Jake Bird and Justin Lawrence combined to pitch the next two innings. Pierce Johnson, Daniel Bard, Matt Koch, and Gavin Hollowell each threw an inning each, with Hollowell getting the win.

Gerrit Cole allowed one run on two hits and one walk in 6 innings, striking out 11 hitters. Wandy Peralta pitched a scoreless 7th inning before Tommy Kahnle and Clay Holmes combined for 4 runs in the 8th. Ian Hamilton, Nick Ramirez, and Ron Marinaccio also pitched.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said of the team's struggles that "Look, it's on us. We know what’s in front of us. We know the expectations on us. Everyone, I know, is going to talk about it. But we’ve got to go do it. The canvas is in front of us to write our own script, and that’s what we’re working hard to do."

Up next, the Rockies welcome the Houston Astros to town on Tuesday, with no announced starter. The Yankees hit the road for a matchup with the Los Angeles Angels, with Luis Severino starting the series opener on Monday.
