No lead is safe playing the fish. Luis Arraez drove in 3 runs, Jake Burger had the game winning hit, and the Miami Marlins rallied to defeat the New York Yankees with a 8-7 victory on Sunday afternoon in Miami.

Trailing 7-3 entering the bottom of the 9th inning, the Marlins stunned the Yankees with a 5 run rally to walk off the game and win the final two games of the series for a series win. The Marlins trailed by as much as 6 runs at one point, marking their largest comeback of the season to date.

Marlins manager Skip Schumaker said of the comeback that "I think the last road trip shows you that's our brand of baseball. I said that in Cincinnati: It shows you we are still that team. We haven't done it in a while. We hit kind of a losing skid, or whatever you want to call it, but we're still that team that has enough firepower in that lineup to make comebacks, and our bullpen is really good still to keep us in the game, let them come back."

Isiah Kiner-Falefa started the scoring in the second inning, giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead with an RBI single. Giancarlo Stanton made it 2-0 in the top of the 3rd before Arraez hit an RBI single to make it a 2-1 game. In the 4th, Anthony Volpe hit a two run home run to make it 4-1. In the 5th, Gleyber Torres scored on a wild pitch and Stanton scored on a fielders choice to make it a 6-1 game.

Ben Rortvedt hit a solo home run in top of the 6th to make it 7-1 Yankees. Burger hit an RBI single in the bottom half to make it 7-2. Bryan De La Cruz made it 7-3 in the 8th with an RBI double. Nick Fortes and Yuli Gurriel scored in the 9th on a single plus error to make it a 7-5 game. Arraez then hit a two run triple to right field to tie the game 7-7. Burger then hit a walk off single to give the Marlins the win.

After the game, Burger said that "Obviously we'd like to win the first game of a series and not have to win the last two, but any way works, and we know that winning series is vital to us right now. Any way you can get two or three, you're doing the right stuff. Obviously, celebrate this for maybe an hour or two more, and then we've got Houston, a tough matchup coming in, so focus on them."

Eury Perez allowed 4 runs on 4 hits and two walks in 4 innings, striking out 5 hitters in his start. Huascar Brazoban pitched the next 2 2/3 innings, allowing 3 runs. AJ Puk pitched the next 1 1/3 innings with no runs allowed. Jorge Lopez got the win with a scoreless 9th inning.

Gerrit Cole turned in a quality start, allowing two runs on 6 hits and two walks in 6 innings. Wandy Peralta allowed a run in 1 1/3 innings before Keynan Middleton finished the 8th. Clay Holmes and Tommy Kahnle pitched the 9th, with Holmes being charged with all 5 runs.

Holmes said of the Yankees latest loss that "Every loss at this point, it’s not fun. We know that the mountain gets bigger with every loss. We know we have to put together some wins, string them together and get some momentum going. Losses like these, they hurt."

The Marlins stay at home on Monday and start a series with the Houston Astros, with Braxton Garrett getting the start. The Yankees hit the road and face the red hot Atlanta Braves, with Clarke Schmidt starting the series opener on Monday.
