Offensive duels can be a lot of fun. William Contreras drove in 3 runs, Carlos Santana added a home run, and the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Texas Rangers with a 9-8 victory on Friday night in Arlington.

The Brewers aren't known for their hitting, but they hung 9 runs on the scoreboard as they outslugged one of baseball's best lineups in the Rangers. It marks the 6th win in 10 games for the Brewers, who are 66-57 and first in the NL Central.

Santana said after the game that "This was a tough game, but we won. I’m excited. I’m working hard on my swing, my approach, and trying not to swing at bad pitches. The last month and a half of the season every game is very important to the team. We have to try to win every series we can. We have to keep going and finish strong to try to make the playoffs."

It was Contreras who started the scoring, hitting an RBI double in the 3rd inning to make it a 1-0 lead. Mark Canha added an RBI double of his own and Willy Adames had an RBI single to make it 3-0 Brewers. In the 4th inning, the Rangers quickly tied it 3-3 with a two run home run by Nathaniel Lowe and a solo shot by Mitch Garver.

Adolis Garcia hit an RBI single in the 6th to make it 4-3 Rangers before a 3 run home run by Santana put the Brewers back in front by a 6-4 score. Contreras hit a two run single followed by a run scoring fielders choice in the 8th to make it 9-4 Brewers. In the 9th, JP Martinez and Marcus Semien had RBI groundouts while Travis Jankowski and Ezequiel Duran hit RBI doubles to make it 9-8. The Brewers held on from there.

Milwaukee manager Craig Counsell said of the win that "It goes in the win column, and it doesn’t really matter how it looks. We scored some runs today. And after we struggled in L.A. to score runs, that feels good. Offensively, we did a great job tonight."

Brandon Woodruff started for the Brewers and allowed 4 runs on 3 hits and two walks in 5 1/3 innings. Elvis Peguero finished the 6th to get credit for the win. Abner Uribe and Hoby Milner threw a scoreless inning each before Andrew Chafin and Devin Williams combined to seal the win in the 9th.

Andrew Heaney had a short start for the Rangers, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits and a walk in 3 2/3 innings. Chris Stratton threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings before Josh Sborz allowed 3 runs while getting just one out. Brock Burke, Grant Anderson, and Jose Leclerc also pitched.

Rangers infielder Marcus Semien said after the game that "I think we're a great offense. We're still in first place; we’re playing good baseball. I mean, I haven't really taken time to think about how we've been doing in that category. But I know tonight, we did great. We just didn't finish the job."

Up next, the series continues on Saturday. Freddy Peralta starts for the Brewers as they go for the series win, while the Rangers try to tie the series with Dane Dunning getting the start.
