According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Miami Marlins have acquired 1B Josh Bell from the Cleveland Guardians in exchange for infielders Jean Segura and Kahlil Watson. Both the Guardians and Marlins have confirmed the trade.

Previously pursuing Bell in the offseason, the Marlins now trade for him at the trade deadline as he's under contract through the 2024 season. Bell has experience playing in the NL East from his days with the Washington Nationals and was selected to the NL All Star team in 2019 while he was with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Bell is in year one of a two year contract he signed with the Guardians in the offseason. He currently holds a .233/.318/.383 slash line, hitting 11 home runs with 19 doubles, 43 walks, and 48 RBI's in 97 games, splitting time between first base and DH in the Cleveland lineup.

Across 8 seasons, Bell has played for 4 different teams, with the Marlins set to be his 5th. In those 8 seasons, he has a .259/.347/.451 slash line, belting 141 home runs to go with 177 doubles, 17 triples, and 516 RBI's in 949 regular season games.

By trading Segura, the Marlins get out of the remainder of a two year, $17 million deal he signed with them prior to this season. He was largely disappointing in his Marlins tenure and is now out the door. The Guardians aren't interested in keeping Segura, as they are releasing him before he reports to the team.

The one part of the trade the Guardians are keeping is Watson, a middle infielder who can play both shortstop and second base. At the time of the trade, Watson was ranked 11th in the Marlins farm system, according to MLB Pipeline.

A first round pick in 2021, Watson is in his second full season of pro ball. Combined between the FCL Marlins and High A Beloit, he has a .210/.337/.390 slash line with 35 walks, 14 stolen bases, 10 doubles, 9 home runs, and 24 RBI's in 60 games.
