Pitching upgrades coming in hot. The Philadelphia Phillies have acquired RHP Michael Lorenzen from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for IF Hao-Yu Lee, according to MLB Network's Jon Morosi. Both clubs have confirmed the trade.

Lorenzen provides both starting pitching and bullpen experience for the Phillies, who are looking to bolster both areas. He has been solely a starter for the last two seasons, but he spent the majority of his career coming out of the bullpen. Lorenzen made the AL All Star team this season as the Tigers representative.

This season is Lorenzen's first year in Detroit, signing a one year deal in the offseason. Lorenzen has a 1.098 WHIP, 3.88 FIP, and 3.58 ERA, averaging 7.1 strikeouts per 9 innings and 2.3 walks per 9 in 18 starts and 105 2/3 innings pitched.

Since the beginning of May, Lorenzen has pitched to a 3.04 ERA to bring his season number to 3.58 at the start of August. The Phillies don't have a lot of starting rotation depth behind Cristopher Sanchez, with Lorenzen being able to help in that regard, at least for this season.

Coming back to the Tigers is Lee, who is a 20 year old infielder from Taiwan and can play shortstop, second base, and 3rd base. According to MLB Pipeline, Lee is ranked as the 5th best prospect in the Phillies farm system.

Signing with the Phillies as an international free agent, Lee is in his 3rd season of professional ball. Combined between the FCL Phillies and High A Jersey Shore, Lee has a .279/.367/.395 slash line, hitting 5 home runs with 29 RBI's. He also has 14 stolen bases, 30 walks, 13 doubles, and one triple in 297 plate appearances.

With the trade, Lorenzen joins Aaron Nola, Zack Wheeler, Taijuan Walker, Ranger Suarez, and Sanchez as starting options on the Phillies roster.
