These Bucco's can slug the ball. Alfonso Rivas homered, Bryan Reynolds drove in a pair of runs, and the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Milwaukee Brewers with a 8-4 victory on Friday night in Milwaukee.

The Pirates won their 6th game in the last 10 as a result, hitting 4 home runs to win the second of four games between the two this weekend. Rivas had a 3 hit game in his second game with the Pirates, while Reynolds also had a 3 hit game.

Rivas got it started right away for the Pirates, blasting a 3 run home run to center field to give the Pirates a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the first, Carlos Santana hit an RBI single for the Brewers followed by a sac fly from Sal Frelick to cut the deficit to 3-2. In the second, Reynolds hit an RBI double that scored Vinny Capra to make it 4-2 Brewers.

Henry Davis then added a two run home run later in the second for the Pirates, opening the lead to 6-2. Santana answered in the 5th for the Pirates, cutting the deficit to 6-3. In the 6th inning, the Pirates took a 8-3 lead on solo home runs by Reynolds and Josh Palacios. Mark Canha made it 8-4 in the 7th with an RBI single.

Pirates manager Derek Shelton said of Rivas that "He’s going to get some opportunity, especially versus right-handed pitching. We know he plays good defense over there. We know how he handles the at-bat. That’s not to say that we won’t see Connor over there. We may see Jared over there. You may see Endy over there at some point. But we knew with Carlos and Ji Man both being traded, we needed to backfill, and we’re fortunate that we were able to get Rivas back in the deal."

Quinn Priester allowed 3 runs in 4 innings in his start for the Pirates. Yerry De Los Santos got the win by pitching a clean 5th. Ryan Borucki, Carmen Mlodzinski, Colin Holderman, and David Bednar each worked an inning after De Los Santos pitched.

Colin Rea lasted 4 innings for the Brewers, allowing 6 runs on 8 hits and 3 walks. Bryse Wilson allowed two runs in two innings before Abner Uribe pitched two scoreless innings and Hoby Miler worked a shutout 9th inning.

Brewers manager Craig Counsell said of Rea's start that "Colin’s been a little bit vulnerable with the home run. You can be vulnerable with that, but then you can’t walk people. That’s one thing you can’t do. It’s how Colin has to pitch. It’s how he has to be to be successful. He’s got a really good feel for the strike zone."

Up next, the series continues on Saturday night. Bailey Falter gets the start for the Pirates, while the Brewers counter with Corbin Burnes.
