Seattle is starting to catch fire. Teoscar Hernandez homered, Eugenio Suarez drove in the winning run, and the Seattle Mariners defeated the Los Angeles Angels with a 3-2 extra innings win on Sunday afternoon in Anaheim.

The Mariners have now won 5 straight games and are just 2 1/2 games of a playoff spot as a result of securing a sweep of the Angels over the weekend. Conversely, the Angels have lost 6 straight games and 8 of 10 as their playoff hopes get dimmer by the day.

Mariners reliever Tayler Saucedo said of the hot streak that "Today felt really good. Everybody is happy, and we're playing great baseball. All we’re trying to do is go out there and win a series and chip away at this thing."

JP Crawford got the scoring started in the top of the first inning. He blasted a solo home run to center field to give the Mariners a 1-0 lead. Mike Moustakas answered back for the Angels in the bottom of the first, tying the game 1-1. It stayed that way until the top of the 7th, when Hernandez put the Mariners ahead 2-1 with a solo home run.

Matt Thaiss made sure that lead didn't last. In the bottom of the 7th, he hit a solo home run of his own, tying the game 2-2 with a homer to right field. It remained 2-2 until the 10th inning. That was when Suarez delivered, hitting an RBI single that scored Ty France to put the Mariners ahead 3-2 for good.

Bryce Miller struck out 10 hitters in his start for the Mariners, tying his debut performance. He also allowed one run on 5 hits in 5 innings. Isaiah Campbell, Trent Thornton, and Justin Topa each threw an inning before Saucedo threw two innings to get credit for the win.

Miller said of his performance that "I threw the ball a lot better today than I did in my debut. In my debut, it was mostly fastballs. Today, I was able to get ahead with more sliders and changeups. I felt good all the way around and not just with the fastball."

Chase Silseth allowed two runs on 4 hits and one walk, racking up 12 strikeouts in 7 innings pitched for the Angels. Matt Moore and Carlos Estevez pitched a scoreless inning before Jaime Barria got the loss by pitching the 10th inning.

Angels outfielder Mickey Moniak said "Getting swept is never fun. But that’s baseball and we have to wake up tomorrow ready to go. But it’s tough on everybody. We’re trying to put in as much work as possible to be successful. It was just a tough series. We were in every game. And obviously not coming through with runners in scoring position is tough."

The Mariners have a day off on Monday before facing the San Diego Padres on Tuesday, with no announced starter. The Angels host the San Francisco Giants on Monday night, with Patrick Sandoval expected to start.
