Things are getting hotter in Kansas City right now. Drew Waters homered, Bobby Witt Jr drove in two runs, and the Kansas City Royals rolled past the New York Mets with a 9-2 victory on Thursday afternoon in Kansas City.

Having won just 4 of their first 33 series entering the homestand, the Royals swept both the Minnesota Twins and the Mets, having now won 6 games in a row and 7 of their last 10 games. It's the first time in franchise history the Royals have swept the Mets.

Royals manager Matt Quatraro said of the winning streak that "We'll take them whenever they come, right? I mean, obviously we've got ourselves in an enormous hole record-wise, but like we've talked about all year, the effort has been there. The intensity of the work and all those things. So it's nice to see some rewards coming for the guys."

Salvador Perez gave the Royals a 1-0 lead in the first inning when he doubled home Witt Jr. In the 3rd inning, Maikel Garcia drove in a run with a sac fly and Witt Jr hit a solo home run, making it a 3-0 lead for the Royals. It stayed that way until the 7th, when Waters broke the game open with a 3 run home run to make it a 6-0 game.

Dairon Blanco kept the runs coming in the 8th, making it 7-0 with an RBI single. Freddy Fermin then scored on a fielders choice to make it 8-0 before Witt Jr drove in Blanco with an RBI single, making the score 9-0. In the 9th, Francisco Lindor ended the shutout bid with a two run home run to make it a 9-2 final score.

Royals infielder Michael Massey said after the game that "One thing I’ve noticed when you’re on a winning streak is your mindset kind of gets off of you and starts going to, ‘Hey, what’s one thing I can do to help this team win?’ You’re just stacking them like post-it notes, and that’s the momentum we have right now."

Brady Singer dazzled in his start for the Royals, striking out 4 hitters and allowing 3 hits over 8 shutout innings, improving to 7-8 on the season with the win. Jimmy Heasley allowed two runs in the 9th but was able to secure the win without any major issues.

Carlos Carrasco was tagged for 6 runs on 8 hits and one walk in 6 innings for the Mets, getting the loss. John Curtiss pitched a scoreless inning before Josh Walker got just one out and allowed 3 runs. Infielder Danny Mendick pitched the rest of the 8th inning.

Up next, the Royals travel to start a series on Friday with the Philadelphia Phillies, where Jordan Lyles will start the series opener. The Mets give the start to David Peterson on Friday as they take on the Baltimore Orioles.
