Once they got on the scoreboard, they couldn't stay off it. Ernie Clement homered, Alejandro Kirk drove in 3 runs, and the Toronto Blue Jays raced past the Colorado Rockies with a 13-9 victory on Friday night in Denver.

The Blue Jays have now won two straight and 5 of 10 as they improve to 74-61 on the season, entrenched in 3rd place in the AL East. The Blue Jays scored in every one of the last 6 innings of play, with Kirk and Clement combining to drive in 6 of the 13 runs scored.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider said after the game "Love it. Good way to start the trip. It always seems to get dicey here, but the at-bats were really, really, really good. Getting the job done with guys on base is something we’ve talked about all the time this year, it feels like, so it was nice to keep adding on there."

Elehuris Montero gave the Rockies a 2-0 lead in the 3rd inning with a two run home run. Brandon Belt hit a solo home run in the 4th, Clement did the same in the 5th, and Danny Jansen hit a two run shot in the 6th to make it 4-2 Blue Jays. Nolan Jones then put the Rockies ahead 5-4 in the bottom of the 6th with a 3 run home run.

In the 7th, Davis Schneider hit an RBI double, followed by Kirk hitting a 3 run double with the bases loaded, then Whit Merrifield adding an RBI double of his own to make it 9-5 Blue Jays. Vladimir Guerrero Jr hit an RBI double in the 8th to make it 10-5. In the 9th, Clement tripled in two runs to make it 12-5 Blue Jays.

Later in the 9th, George Springer made it 13-5 with an RBI single that scored Clement. In the bottom of the 9th, Montero hit an RBI single to make it a 13-6 game. He then scored on a ground out to make it 13-7. Elias Diaz hit an RBI single to make it 13-8, followed by an RBI double by Ryan McMahon to make it 13-9. The Blue Jays then nailed down the win.

Springer said of the win that "No lead is safe. Anybody can score a lot of runs at any time, and that’s not because of the arms on either team. You are never out of the game. You have to assume the other team is going to score runs. You have to assume there is an awkward spot in there, where there is a three- or four-run spot. Obviously, things got interesting there tonight."

Hyun-Jin Ryu allowed two runs on 4 hits and two walks in 5 innings in his start for Toronto. Yimi Garcia and Genesis Cabrera combined to pitch the 6th before Jordan Hicks and Trevor Richards each had a scoreless inning. Chad Green allowed 4 runs in the 9th, needing Jordan Romano to seal the win.

Chris Flexen started for the Rockies, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits and one walk in 5 2/3 innings. Gavin Hollowell finished the 6th before Jake Bird allowed 3 runs, only getting one out. Brent Suter allowed two more before Tommy Doyle allowed one in 1 1/3 innings. Daniel Bard allowed 3 runs in the 9th.

Up next, the series continues on Saturday night with the second game of the 3 game series. The Blue Jays give the start to Yusei Kikuchi as they go for the series win, while Ty Blach starts for the Rockies as they look to tie the series.
