Well, there was no doubt left on this game. Christian Yelich homered twice, Josh Donaldson drove in 3 runs, and the Milwaukee Brewers trounced the Miami Marlins with a 16-1 victory on Friday night in Miami.

The Brewers officially clinched a playoff spot with the rout, winning their 4th straight game and 7th of 10. Their magic number to win the NL Central is down to one, giving them a chance to clinch on Saturday. It's the 5th time in 6 years the Brewers have made the playoffs.

Yelich said of locking down a playoff spot that "There’s no easy wins in this league, and for us to do it five out of the last six years is pretty special. I think we needed to take a moment to appreciate that, how hard that is to do. Obviously, the job’s not done. That’s not our end goal. But you have to acknowledge how hard it is to just make the postseason one time. For some guys, it’s their first time, and you never know when it could be your last."

Donaldson started the scoring in the second inning with a two run home run to make it 2-0 Brewers. William Contreras hit an RBI single, and Carlos Santana added an RBI double, doubling the lead to 4-0. Mark Canha added a two run double to make it 6-0 before Sal Frelick added an RBI single to make it 7-0 Brewers.

Frelick then scored on a groundout from Donaldson to make it an 8-0 game. Brice Turang followed that up with an RBI single, scoring Willy Adames to make it 9-0. Blake Perkins doubled in Turang to make it 10-0. Yelich then hit a two run home run to make it 12-0. Oh, by the way, all 12 runs came in the second inning.

In the 5th inning, Santana made it 13-0 Brewers with an RBI single that brought home Yelich. One inning later, Yelich hit his second home run of the night, this one being a 3 run shot to make it 16-0 Brewers. Jon Berti ended the shutout bid in the 8th for the Marlins, hitting a solo home run to make it a 16-1 final score.

Brewers pitcher Corbin Burnes said of the 12 run inning that "Multiple times I was like, 'I don’t know if I need to go throw baseballs in the cage.' I didn’t know what to do because that was such a long inning. Twelve runs, I didn’t know that was possible. But we did it."

Burnes provided 5 shutout innings for the Brewers, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out 6 hitters. Trevor Megill and Andrew Chafin threw a scoreless inning each before Bryse Wilson allowed a run in the 8th. First baseman Rowdy Tellez pitched a scoreless 9th to cap the win for the Brewers.

JT Chargois got the first two outs before Steven Okert allowed 4 runs in 2/3 of an inning for the Marlins. Bryan Hoeing was charged with 9 runs while handling the next 3 innings. George Soriano allowed 3 runs in 1 2/3 innings before Johnny Cueto added a scoreless inning. Catcher Jacob Stallings pitched a scoreless 9th inning.

Marlins manager Skip Schumaker said of the rout that "It wasn't a good game. It's tough to find a couple of positives when you're in that game. I think everybody just wants to eat and get the hell out of here and come back tomorrow and do the best they can to flush it and try to win the game tomorrow."

Up next, the series continues on Saturday afternoon. The Brewers look to win the NL Central title with Brandon Woodruff taking the mound. The Marlins look to equal the series with Jesus Luzardo getting the start.
