Arizona wins series 3-0
The upstart team keeps on rolling. Geraldo Perdomo homered, the offense set a home run record, and the Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers with a 4-2 victory on Wednesday night in Phoenix.

So far this postseason, the D-Backs are a perfect 5-0, sweeping the Milwaukee Brewers in the wild card round before taking down their hated division rival in the Dodgers. The D-Backs got it done in game 3 by hitting a postseason record 4 home runs in an inning to advance to the NLCS.

The last time the D-Backs were even in the playoffs was 2017, when they lost in the NLDS to these Dodgers, being swept by them in 3 games. Now, they return the favor as they advance to the NLCS for the first time since 2007, where they were swept by another division rival in the Colorado Rockies.

D-Backs pitcher Zac Gallen said that "I think it's an understatement to say we were counted out, especially in this series, for sure. And obviously, it's no secret we've had our battles with them, our struggles. But yeah, this one tastes a little bit sweeter, for sure. Especially since I heard some comments that this is just gonna be a home game for them."

Perdomo got the scoring started for the D-Backs in the 3rd inning, making it a 1-0 game with a solo home run. Ketel Marte then added a solo home run a few batters later, doubling the lead to 2-0. Christian Walker made it 3 home runs in an inning with a solo shot to make it 3-0. Gabriel Moreno went back to back with Walker to make it 4-0 D-Backs after 3 innings.

The score stayed 4-0 all the way until the 7th inning. Chris Taylor ended the shutout bid for the D-Backs, getting the Dodgers on the board with an RBI single that scored Max Muncy. The next batter was Kike Hernandez, who delivered for the Dodgers, cutting the deficit to 4-2 as Will Smith scored on an RBI single.

D-Backs owner Ken Kendrick said after the game that "I’m seeing it, so I guess I have to believe it. I’m really happy for our town. It’s been a long while for us, as you guys know, and these young guys were overachieving and everyone is sort of saying, ‘Oh, they’re pretty damn good.’ I don’t know about the national media. They probably don’t quite have it yet. But some of the rest of us are kind of getting it."

Brandon Pfaadt started for the D-Backs, pitching 4 1/3 scoreless innings. Joe Mantiply got the win with 1 1/3 scoreless innings after Pfaadt depared. Ryan Thompson and Andrew Saalfrank handled the next 1 1/3 innings before Kevin Ginkel and Paul Sewald closed out the Dodgers.

Lance Lynn lasted just 2 2/3 innings for the Dodgers, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits. A bullpen chorus of Caleb Ferguson, Michael Grove, Alex Vesia, Brusdar Graterol, and Evan Phillips held the D-Backs scoreless over the remaining 5 1/3 innings.

Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw said of being knocked out "Disappointing no matter how it ends if you don’t win the whole thing. Obviously this one hurts a lot just because of how it went down. They played great. They hit well, pitched well. Yeah, I don’t know what else to say. Just, obviously, a disappointing end."

Up next, the D-Backs wait to see who they'll be playing in the NLCS, as they'll face the winner of the series between the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves. The Dodgers head home disappointed after coming up short during another 100 win regular season.
