Arizona leads series 1-0
What a turnaround in this one. Corbin Carroll homered, Christian Walker drove in a pair of runs, and the Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Milwaukee Brewers with a 6-3 victory on Tuesday night in Milwaukee.

In their first playoff game since 2017, the D-Backs made a statement to take the series lead early. Trailing 3-0 early, the D-Backs went on a 6-0 turnaround to turn the game on its head. Carroll and Ketel Marte got the scoring started with back to back home runs.

Walker said of Carroll's homer "That was the spark. It just kind of let everybody know, hey, we’re in this. The confidence to see somebody turn around a good pitch, it was like, ‘Hey, stay locked in, he’s going to make mistakes.’ But that was the spark. It kind of took the edge off."

Carlos Santana gave the Brewers an early lead in the first inning, hitting an RBI single to score Christian Yelich. In the second inning, Tyrone Taylor belted a two run home run to make it 3-0 Brewers. In the 3rd, Carroll hit a two run home run, followed by a solo shot from Marte, quickly tying the game 3-3.

Gabriel Moreno kept the momentum going for the D-Backs in the 4th inning, hitting a solo home run to center field. It remained 4-3 until the 9th. With two runners on base, Walker doubled to right field, scoring them both to make it a 6-3 game.

D-Backs manager Torey Lovullo said of the series opening win that "You win Game 1, it feels good. We have to do it right and take nothing for granted and stay humble and come here tomorrow and play our finest game and try to close them out. They’re going to come with everything they have. That’s for sure."

Brandon Pfaadt lasted 2 2/3 innings for the D-Backs, allowing 3 runs. Joe Mantiply, Miguel Castro, and Ryne Nelson combined for the next 1 2/3 innings. Ryan Thompson threw 1 2/3 innings before Kevin Ginkel pitched two innings and Paul Sewald got the save in the 9th.

Corbin Burnes started for the Brewers, allowing 4 runs on 5 hits and two walks in 4 innings. Abner Uribe worked the 5th before Elvis Peguero and Hoby Milner each pitched 2/3 of an inning. Joel Payamps pitched 1 2/3 innings before Devin Williams and Bryse Wilson pitched the 9th inning.

Burnes said of his start that "The offense did a great job of coming out and swinging the bats and scoring runs early. I just did a poor job after that of executing pitches. That's really all it comes down to. When I was executing pitches the first couple of innings, we got quick outs and a lot of ground balls, some strikeouts. Then when I stopped executing pitches, they didn't miss."

Game two of the series is on Wednesday night in Milwaukee. The D-Backs look to close out a series sweep with a win, while the Brewers look to tie the series and force a deciding game 3.
