Series tied 1-1
This thing is tied up through two. Corbin Carroll drove in two runs, Gabriel Moreno homered, and the Arizona Diamondbacks routed the Texas Rangers with a 9-1 victory on Saturday night in Arlington.

After losing in a tough fashion in game one, the D-Backs responded with a bang in game two, hanging 9 runs on the Rangers to even the series at a game apiece, ensuring at least a 5 game series. They outhit the Rangers 16-4, the most hits for a team in a World Series game in 9 years.

They got there with help from Merrill Kelly on the mound. He pitched 7 innings of one run ball, allowing 3 hits and striking out 9 hitters in his first World Series start. Andrew Saalfrank followed with 1 1/3 scoreless innings before Luis Frias got the last two outs.

Kelly said that "I dreamt of dominating in the World Series, but at that point, when I was doing it, that’s all it was, a dream. It took a lot of hard work, a lot of being at the right place. I’ve got to give a lot of credit to the Arizona organization for giving me a chance to be here. I appreciate them a lot for giving me this opportunity. I’m just glad we got it done tonight."

Moreno got the scoring started in the 4th inning, hitting a solo home run to give the D-Backs a 1-0 lead. Lourdes Gurriel Jr added an RBI single to score Tommy Pham and make it 2-0. In the 5th inning, Mitch Garver hit a solo home run to left field, making it a 2-1 game as the Rangers got on the board. In the 7th, Carroll and Evan Longoria hit RBI singles to make it a 4-1 D-Backs lead.

Ketel Marte hit a two run single in the 8th inning, making it a 6-1 game as Pham and Emmanuel Rivera scored. Carroll came up with his second RBI single of the night, scoring Geraldo Perdomo to make it a 7-1 lead. In the 9th inning, Rivera hit a two run single, scoring Gurriel Jr and Jace Peterson to make it a 9-1 final score.

Texas catcher Jonah Heim said of the D-Backs that "They take what they’re given. They extend innings, and they do damage when they can. At the end of the day, they’re just going to take their singles and keep on moving. It’s for us to make an adjustment."

Starting for the Rangers was Jordan Montgomery, who allowed 4 runs on 9 hits and a walk in 6+ innings, failing to record a strikeout. Andrew Heaney and Dane Dunning pitched the 7th inning before Chris Stratton allowed a run in 2/3 of an inning. Martin Perez allowed 4 runs in 1 1/3 innings.

Rangers first baseman Nathaniel Lowe said of the loss that "It’s a seven-game set. We'd be naive to think that we're going to run away with four in a row against a team that really fights, like we did. They had to go through the Wild Card round and then all the way through and they're here. It's a resilient bunch over there, but we're pretty confident in our group, too."

Game 3 of the series is on Monday as the series shifts to Arizona for the next 3 games. Brandon Pfaadt gets the start for the D-Backs, opposed by Max Scherzer for the Rangers.
