The start of awards season is officially here. Major League Baseball announced the 2023 Gold Glove winners at each position in both the AL and NL on Sunday.

3 teams saw 3 players win gold gloves, with the Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, and Toronto Blue Jays leading the charge. 3 rookies won gold gloves as well. 13 players are first time winners, the second most in the award's history. This is the 4th consecutive year that there have been over 10 first time winners, extending the current record. Here are the winners.

Catcher: Jonah Heim (TEX), Gabriel Moreno (AZ)
Heim was a mainstay behind the plate for the Rangers, being a breakout star in 2023. He finished with strong defensive marks, ranking in the 97th percentile in pitch framing and 90th percentile in caught stealing above average.
Moreno shined in his first big league season following a trade from the Blue Jays. He became their catcher of the present and future immediately, ending the regular season with a 39 percent caught stealing percentage.

First base: Nathaniel Lowe (TEX), Christian Walker (AZ)
Lowe was a stalwart at first base for the Rangers. He only missed one game, appearing in 161 games at first base. He made just three errors at first base all season. Walker is the second D-Backs winner and it's his second gold glove in a row, recording 11 outs above average and ranking in the 97th percentile in range among first basemen.

Second base: Andres Gimenez (CLE), Nico Hoerner (CHC)
Like Walker, Gimenez is also a back to back winner. He continued to be one of the best defensive second basemen in the game, racking up 23 defensive runs saved, the second highest in the majors.
Playing second base as Dansby Swanson's double play partner, Hoerner had a standout season defensively, capturing his first gold glove. He was tied for the NL lead in defensive runs saved with 12.

Third base: Matt Chapman (TOR), Ke'Bryan Hayes (PIT)
Logging 1,213 innings at the hot corner, Chapman captured the 4th glove of his illustrious defensive career. He had 12 defensive runs saved to lead AL third basemen and has 92 since debuting. He had a .968 fielding percentage all season.
Hayes becomes the first third basemen in the NL to win the gold glove in over a decade that isn't named Nolan Arenado, which is an impressive feat in itself. Hayes had 21 defensive runs saved at the hot corner, leading NL third basemen.

Shortstop: Anthony Volpe (NYY), Dansby Swanson (CHC)
Volpe becomes the first Yankees rookie to take home a gold glove honor, and he did so at one of the most important positions in the game. He's the youngest shortstop to win a gold glove, picking up 15 defensive runs saved in 1,350 innings.
Swanson wins his second career gold glove as he and Hoerner sweep the NL middle infield. He led all shortstops with 20 outs above average and set a career high with 18 defensive runs saved.

Left field: Steven Kwan (CLE), Ian Happ (CHC)
Kwan wins his second straight gold glove in his second year in the majors. He finished with 16 defensive runs saved in left field to go with a 95th percentile ranking in range.
Happ also takes home his second gold glove as the third Cubs winner of the year. He had a .989 fielding percentage to go along with 12 outfield assists, reminding baserunners to not test his arm.

Center field: Kevin Kiermaier (TOR), Brenton Doyle (COL)
Kiermaier has long been one of the best defensive center fielders, and that shows with his 4th gold glove. His 18 defensive runs saved and 13 outs above average tied him for the league lead among center fielders.
In his rookie season, Doyle flashed the leather all season long as he takes home the award. He had 19 defensive runs saved while ranking in the 99th percentile in range, arm value, and arm strength.

Right field: Adolis Garcia (TEX), Fernando Tatis Jr (SD)
Garcia showed off his defensive prowess in 2023, taking home his first gold glove. He had 11 outfield assists and his strong arm ranked him in the 98th percentile in value and the 95th percentile in strength.
Shifting to the outfield from shortstop served Tatis well as he wins his first gold glove. His athleticism was on full display, recording 11 outs above average while leading the majors with 29 defensive runs saved.

Utility: Mauricio Dubon (HOU), Ha-Seong Kim (SD)
Dubon was a true utility player for the Astros in 2023, playing every position except pitcher and catcher. He had five defensive runs saved at second base and picked up two in the outfield.
Kim saw action at third, second, and shortstop for the Padres. He had 10 defensive runs saved at second base, ranking second there, and had 3 defensive runs saved at both shortstop and third base.

Pitcher: Jose Berrios (TOR), Zack Wheeler (PHI)
Yes, pitchers still get gold gloves. Berrios made just two errors on 43 chances in the field, while Wheeler had 32 chances and made one error.
