Here's a big contract for someone so young. The Milwaukee Brewers and OF Jackson Chourio have agreed to an 8 year, $82 million contract, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network. The Brewers have confirmed the news.

Chourio is the second ranked prospect in all of baseball and top prospect in the Brewers system, having yet to play a game in the majors. That didn't stop them from signing him to the richest contract a player has gotten before making his major league debut, surpassing Luis Robert Jr's 6 year, $50 million contract ahead of the 2020 season.

Before Chourio's contract, only 5 long term contracts have been signed by teams and prospects who haven't made their major league debut. Robert Jr, Evan White, Eloy Jimenez, Scott Kingery, and Jon Singleton signed with their teams before playing in the majors.

Last season, Chourio played in 122 games with Double A Biloxi and 6 games with Triple A Nashville. He combined to post a .283/.338/.467 slash line, blasting 22 home runs, 26 doubles, and 3 triples to go with 91 RBI's and 44 stolen bases.

Chourio, who is 19, could now make the jump directly to the majors at the start of the season. The Brewers outfield picture currently consists of Christian Yelich, Tyrone Taylor, Garrett Mitchell, Joey Wiemer, and Sal Frelick. The Brewers have also previously agreed to extensions with Ryan Braun, Freddy Peralta, and Aaron Ashby with all 3 having minimal big league experience at the time of signing.

The $82 million contract for Chourio is the 3rd largest contract in Brewers history, passing Lorenzo Cain's $80 million contract and falling below Braun's $105 million contract in 2011 and Yelich's $215 million contract in 2020.
