They aren't just golden, they're platinum. Cleveland Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez and San Diego Padres outfielder Fernando Tatis Jr won the 2023 Platinum Glove Award for the AL and NL respectively on Friday.

Both players won the award for the first time. Tatis Jr becomes the first Padres outfielder and player to win a platinum glove. In the other league, Gimenez is just the second player in Guardians/Indians history to win a platinum glove, with Francisco Lindor being the first to win in 2016.

Gimenez won his second straight gold glove last week and now has a platinum glove on top of it. He ended the regular season with 23 defensive runs saved, good for second best in the majors. He ranked in the 100th percentile in range and finished ranked 3rd in the majors in outs above average with 18 on the season.

Once he returned from a PED suspension in May, Tatis Jr shifted to right field full time with Xander Bogaerts serving as the Padres everyday shortstop. In 2021, Tatis Jr played 20 games in right field and 7 games in center field, but he became a full time outfielder this season.

Learning right field on the fly didn't seem to matter too much for Tatis Jr. He led the majors in defensive runs saved with 29 and finished in the 99th percentile in arm strength and the 94th percentile in both arm value and range.

The team gold glove awards for 2023 were also announced, with the Toronto Blue Jays winning the AL award and the Milwaukee Brewers winning the NL award.
