A new era is beginning for this player. The Milwaukee Brewers and 1B Rhys Hoskins have agreed to a two year, $34 million contract, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. The deal has been confirmed by the team.

Hoskins entered free agency after missing the entire 2023 season due to tearing his ACL in spring training. If the Phillies had made the World Series, there was a chance he could have made the roster, but he never got the chance as the team fell short in the NLCS. His contract with the Brewers has an opt out after the first year.

The last season Hoskins played was in 2022 as the Phillies made a run to the World Series. He had a .246/.332/.462 slash line with a 123 OPS+, hitting 30 home runs and 33 doubles with 79 RBI's in 156 games. He hit 6 home runs and drove in 12 in 17 playoff games.

Throughout his career, Hoskins has become one of the better offensive first basemen in the game, with a slugging percentage just under .500 and an OPS of .846 in 6 seasons. After leading the league in walks in 2019, his walk rate has dropped and he is below average defensively, ranking 33rd of 36 first basemen in outs above average in 2022.

Hoskins' bat will be a welcome addition to a Brewers lineup in need of a power jolt. Brewers first basemen combined for a wRC+ of 81 last season, far below the league average of 100, ranking 28th in the majors. They also ranked 28th in OPS with a .681 mark last season.

All 6 seasons Hoskins has played in the majors have come in a Phillies uniform. He has a .242/.353/.492 slash line with a 125 OPS+, bashing 149 doubles and 148 home runs to go with 405 RBI's in 667 games. Over 17 playoff games, Hoskins has 6 home runs, 12 RBI's, and 11 total hits in 73 plate appearances.

Hoskins will join Jake Bauers and Owen Miller as options at first base for the Brewers in 2024 after they started Carlos Santana, Jon Singleton, and Rowdy Tellez at first in 2023.
