There could be a new Windy City ballpark coming soon. The Chicago White Sox and developer Related Midwest are in discussions to build a new ballpark, according to a report from the Chicago Sun Times.

The discussions are taking place about building a ballpark on a piece of land along Chicago's South Loop. The reported development site is roughly 3 miles north of their current ballpark, Guaranteed Rate Field, and is closer to Soldier Field, where the NFL's Chicago Bears play. The discussions were described as serious.

White Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf and Chicago mayor Brandon Johnson said in a joint statement that "We met to discuss the historic partnership between the team and Chicago and the team’s ideas for remaining competitive in Chicago in perpetuity."

The White Sox have played at Guaranteed Rate Field since 1991 after their former home Comiskey Park was demolished in 1990. Reinsdorf said during the season that the team would explore looking at options for a new ballpark.

The Illinois Sports Facilities Authority owns Guaranteed Rate Field and has been leasing it to the White Sox. The team's current lease is set to expire at the end of the 2029 season, which would be 38 years after the ballpark opened.
