Avoiding the sweep is always good. Ryan O'Hearn drove in two runs, Cedric Mullins homered, and the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Milwaukee Brewers with a 6-4 victory Sunday afternoon in Baltimore.

The win extends the Orioles streak of not being swept in the regular season to 96 series in a row, dating back to before Adley Rutschman's callup in 2022, the 3rd longest streak in baseball history. They also did it as Jackson Holliday, baseball's best prospect, recorded his first major league hit.

William Contreras started the game with a solo home run in the top of the first, making it 1-0 Brewers. O'Hearn hit an RBI single in the bottom of the first to make it 1-1 before Mullins hit a second inning solo home run to make it 2-1. Blake Perkins scored on a wild pitch in the top of the 3rd to make it 2-2 before O'Hearn hit a solo home run in the bottom of the 3rd to put the Orioles ahead 3-2.

Willy Adames scored in the 4th on an RBI single and error to tie the game 3-3. Perkins hit a solo home run in the top of the 7th to put the Brewers ahead 4-3. With Holliday on base in the bottom of the 7th, Gunnar Henderson tied the game with an RBI single and Holliday scored the go ahead run on a groundout from Rutschman. Colton Cowser made it 6-4 in the 8th with a solo home run.

Holliday said of his first week in the majors "Not so much difficult, just a lot, you know? It’s a lot. It’s been fun. It’s quite an experience. I don’t think I’d ever take it for granted, the experience that I’ve had. If you go 0-for for three or four games, I mean, it’s going to happen in baseball. I prefer it not to be at the beginning of my career, but it’s going to happen."

Corbin Burnes started against his old team and allowed 3 runs in 5 innings for the Orioles. Jacob Webb worked a scoreless 6th before Yennier Cano pitched 1 1/3 innings, allowing one run. Danny Coulombe got the final two outs of the 8th before Craig Kimbrel got the save in the 9th.

Colin Rea allowed 3 runs in 5 2/3 innings in his start for the Brewers, striking out 6 hitters. Bryan Hudson got the last out of the 6th, a quick appearance. Abner Uribe allowed two runs in the 7th, with Hoby Milner giving up one in the 8th.

Milwaukee manager Pat Murphy said of facing Burnes for the first time that "Whenever you’re facing a No. 1, you’re trying to do everything you can to pester him to get him off his game. I don’t know if we did that. He made some big pitches at some big times and gave his team a chance to win."

Both teams start new series on Monday. Cole Irvin takes the mound for the Orioles as they welcome the Minnesota Twins to town. The Brewers head home to take on the San Diego Padres with Joe Ross taking the ball to open the series.
