In the cold, we saw rays come out. Ben Rortvedt drove in two runs, Isaac Paredes homered, and the Tampa Bay Rays rallied to defeat the Colorado Rockies 8-6 on Saturday night in Denver.

The Rays picked up their first win on the road this season and did so on the back of a 5 run 8th inning to turn the tables on the Rockies. Paredes, Rortvedt, and Yandy Diaz each drove in two runs for the Rays, who improved to 4-5 on the young season with the win.

Rays outfielder Richie Palacios said after the game that "We’ve got some dawgs in here, guys that are just grinders. We just grind through those ABs. We were able to put some good swings together, put some walks together and definitely grind out a win."

Paredes gave the Rays a 1-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI single that scored Brandon Lowe. Ryan McMahon tied the game in the second for the Rockies with a solo home run. Elias Diaz gave the Rockies a 2-1 lead in the 3rd on an RBI single before Michael Toglia hit a two run home run in the 4th and Brenton Doyle did the same in the 6th, making it 6-1 Rockies.

Rortvedt drove in Palacios and Harold Ramirez in the 7th on a two run double to make it 6-3. In the 8th, Paredes hit a solo home run, Ramirez hit an RBI double, Amed Rosario hit an RBI single, and Diaz capped off the rally with a two run single, making it an 8-6 ballgame. The Rays closed the game out from there.

Tyler Alexander started for the Rays, allowing 4 runs in 4 1/3 innings. Chris Devenski came on and allowed two runs in 2 1/3 innings pitched. Garrett Cleavinger got the win in 1/3 of an inning before Jason Adam threw a scoreless 8th inning and Colin Poche got the first save of the season in the 9th.

Poche said of picking up the save after blowing a chance before that "Anytime you get one like that, you kind of want to get that taste out of your mouth. Maybe you prefer better conditions than what it was out there, but that inning probably felt as good as any in recent memory."

Ryan Feltner started for the Rockies, allowing just one run while working 6 innings. Jake Bird allowed two runs in the 7th. Tyler Kinley gave up 3 runs while getting two outs in the 8th, Jalen Beeks allowed two without recording an out, and Justin Lawrence pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings.

Colorado manager Bud Black said of Feltner's start that "He threw outstanding. The ball-strike ratio the first couple of innings was not very good. All of a sudden he turned it around and started throwing a ton of strikes; arguably one of the best outings of his career."

The series concludes Sunday afternoon. With the series tied at a game apiece, both teams are going for the series win. Ryan Pepiot takes the mound to start for the Rays while the Rockies counter with Dakota Hudson.
