Undefeated no more. Christian Walker homered, Zac Gallen had a shutout performance, and the Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the New York Yankees with a 7-0 shutout victory on Tuesday night in Phoenix.

With the Yankees having won their first 5 games of the season, the D-Backs put an end to that with a shutout at home as Arizona improved to 4-2 to open the year. They pounced on Yankees pitching in a few innings and had brilliant pitching of their own, led by Gallen.

Walker said after the game that "Where yesterday we had a hard time getting things going. We showed up today almost like we paid it no mind, snapped back into who we were, trusted ourselves, didn't try to do too much. To bounce back like this and put some runs up against a good team was important for us as an offense."

Blaze Alexander and the D-Backs got the lead right away, giving them a 1-0 lead with an RBI single that scored Ketel Marte. Alexander then came around to score on an RBI single from Eugenio Suarez, making it 2-0 D-Backs. Gabriel Moreno made it 3-0 D-Backs on the 3rd RBI single of the inning, scoring Walker.

The scoring paused for a while and picked back up in the 7th inning. Walker blasted his 3rd home run of the season, doubling the team's lead to 6-0 on a 3 run home run. The lead then became 7-0 in the 8th inning when Geraldo Perdomo scored on a wild pitch. The D-Backs pitching staff kept the Yankees off the board to seal the win.

Gallen made his second start of the season and got his second win, striking out 6 hitters in 6 shutout innings. Scott McGough, Ryan Thompson, and Bryce Jarvis each threw a scoreless inning in relief to close out the win.

Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said of Gallen's start that "It was a clean game. Those are the types of game I expect us to play, but it was all set up by Zac. He was just pounding the zone, in command of more than one pitch and could get to anything at any time."

Nestor Cortes Jr pitched 5 innings in his start for the Yankees, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits and two walks. Victor Gonzalez pitched one inning and gave up two runs. Jake Cousins handled the final two innings, allowing two runs of his own.

The series concludes on Wednesday afternoon. With the series tied 1-1, both teams are going for the series win. Merrill Kelly takes the mound for the D-Backs as Carlos Rodon gets the start for the Yankees.
