Comeback complete. Dominic Canzone drove in two runs, Ty France drove in the winning run, and the Seattle Mariners rallied to defeat the New York Yankees with a 5-4 victory Monday night in the Bronx.

Trailing 3-0 entering the 8th, the Mariners proceeded to outscore the Yankees 5-1 over the final two innings to pick up the win, snapping the Yankees 7 game winning streak and winning their 6th game in their last 10. They gave Yankees closer Clay Holmes his second blown save of the season.

Seattle outfielder Luke Raley said of the rally that "I just think we never give in. Obviously Holmes has been throwing the ball really well and we're able to kind of dink and dunk them for a couple of runs. So always good wins to be able to do that."

Alex Verdugo gave the Yankees the lead early in this one. In the first inning, he hit a two run double to right field, giving the Yankees an early 2-0 lead. In the 5th, Verdugo tacked on to the Yankees lead, making it a 3-0 game on an RBI single. Canzone hit a solo home run in the top of the 8th to get the Mariners on the board and make it 3-1.

Jon Berti got the run back for the Yankees in the bottom of the 8th, hitting an RBI single to center field that made it 4-1. Raley made it 4-2 in the 9th with an RBI infield single. Mitch Haniger hit an RBI single to cut the deficit to 4-3 before a sac fly from Canzone scored Raley to tie the game. France scored Haniger with an RBI single to make it 5-4 Mariners.

Seattle manager Scott Servais said after the game that "We've had a lot of crazy wins here over the last seven, eight, nine years that I've been here, but I don't know of anything wilder than that one. Tremendous effort by our guys just hanging in there. Don't quit. You cannot quit in this game."

Logan Gilbert was the starting pitcher for the Mariners, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits and a walk in 6 innings pitched. Kirby Snead got one out in the 7th before Eduard Bazardo allowed one run in 1 2/3 innings, getting the win. Andres Munoz picked up his 9th save of the season in the 9th.

Marcus Stroman worked 7 1/3 innings in his start for the Yankees, allowing one run while striking out 6 hitters. Luke Weaver got the final two outs of the 8th as he got a hold. Holmes blew his second save of the year as he allowed 4 runs in the 9th, requiring Caleb Ferguson to come in and finish the inning.

Holmes said of his shaky outing that "My stuff, I thought it was good enough tonight. I just didn’t make the pitch when I needed to. Some of the two-strike pitches were competitive, some weren’t. I think if a few more of those had been competitive, especially in the zone there, tonight could have looked different."

The second game of the series is lined up for Tuesday night. In the middle game of 4, Bryan Woo gets the start on the mound for the Mariners, opposed by Clarke Schmidt of the Yankees.
