No sweep here. Pete Alonso homered, JD Martinez scored the winning run, and the New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies with a 6-5 extra inning victory Thursday night in Philadelphia.

The win ends the possibility of a home and home sweep at the hands of the Phillies, as the Mets won for just the second time in 7 games and 4th in 10. 4 different hitters drove in a run for the Mets, who also took advantage of a few wild pitches.

Alonso got the scoring started right away, giving the Mets a 1-0 lead with a solo home run in the first inning, his 10th of the season. Brett Baty hit an RBI double in the second inning to make it 2-0. In the 6th, the Phillies tied the game 2-2 on an RBI single and sac fly. Kyle Schwarber hit an RBI double in the 7th to put the Phillies ahead 3-2.

Harrison Bader hit an RBI single in the 8th inning, tying the game 3-3 as Tyrone Taylor scored. Alonso then crossed the plate on a wild pitch to make it 4-3 Mets. Bryson Stott tied the game in the 9th with an RBI single. In the 11th, Martinez hit an RBI single then scored on a wild pitch to make it 6-4. One run scored for the Phillies on a force out to make it a 6-5 score.

Jose Quintana got the start for the Mets, allowing two runs on 4 hits, striking out 4 hitters in 5 1/3 innings. Reed Garrett allowed a run in 1 2/3 innings before Adam Ottavino pitched a scoreless 8th. Edwin Diaz allowed a run in the 9th. Jorge Lopez and Jake Diekman pitched in extra innings.

Taijuan Walker started for the Phillies, allowing two runs in 3 1/3 innings before leaving injured after taking a line drive off his foot. Jeff Hoffman and Jose Alvarado each allowed two runs in relief, while Matt Strahm, Orion Kerkering, Gregory Soto, and Jose Ruiz had scoreless appearances.

Walker said of his injury that "It feels better now than when it first happened. I tried to walk it off a little bit, but it kept getting kind of hot and numb, just started hurting. It’s definitely sore, bruised, starting to swell a bit. But could have been a lot worse."

The Mets hit the road over the weekend for a series with the Miami Marlins, with Christian Scott lined up to start on Friday. The Phillies host the Washington Nationals with Zack Wheeler set to start.
