Colton Cowser drove in a pair of runs, Gunnar Henderson homered and drove in two himself, and the Baltimore Orioles cruised past the Seattle Mariners with a 9-2 victory Friday night in Baltimore.

The Orioles started off the series on the right foot with the win, picking up their second win in a row and 7th in 10 games. A 5 run first inning set the tone early and a 4 run 7th inning put the game away late while Henderson also moved into a tie for the major league lead in home runs.

Mitch Garver gave the Mariners a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning with an RBI single that scored Dylan Moore. Henderson tied it 1-1 in the bottom of the first with a solo home run, his 13th of the year. Adley Rutschman scored on a force out, Cowser hit a two run double, and Anthony Santander scored on a sac fly to put the Orioles ahead 5-1 after one inning.

In the 5th inning, Moore got a run back for the Mariners when he hit a solo home run to left field, his 4th homer of the season. In the 7th, Henderson made it a 6-2 game with an RBI triple that scored Jorge Mateo. Rutschman scored Henderson with an RBI double to make it 7-2 before Austin Hays added an RBI double of his own. Hays later scored on a wild pitch to make it 9-2.

Henderson said of the team's performance at the plate that "I felt like we just stuck to the plan that we went up there with and didn’t sway away from it too much. We all put together our processes and just put together good, lengthy at-bats."

John Means started against the Mariners for the first time since his 2021 no hitter and allowed two runs in 6 innings. Jacob Webb and Yennier Cano pitched the 7th inning while Mike Baumann pitched a scoreless 8th and Keegan Akin closed out the win in the 9th for the Orioles.

Bryce Miller was the starter for the Mariners, allowing 5 runs on 6 hits and a walk in 5 1/3 innings. Cody Bolton allowed one run in 2/3 of an inning while Kirby Snead allowed 3 without recording an out. Eduard Bazardo came on and pitched two scoreless innings after the damage was done.

Mariners star center fielder Julio Rodriguez added to his highlight reel in this one. Last season, he robbed Baltimore's Ryan O'Hearn of a home run in June at Camden Yards. This year, he added to his Baltimore highlight reel when he took one back from Santander in the 6th inning.

Rodriguez said of his latest home run saving catch that "As soon as he hit the ball, I knew he hit it pretty hard and that it was going to be kind of close to the wall. So I got back as soon as I could to have time to jump. Then I saw the ball kind of die, and I was, 'Oh, I gotta get this one.' And I just jumped up as high as I could."

Game two of the series is set for Saturday afternoon. Grayson Rodriguez was activated off the 15 Day IL and will start for the Orioles as they go for the series win. The Mariners try to even the score behind starting pitcher Luis Castillo.
