Another edition of the rivalry is in the books. Mike Yastrzemski homered, Logan Webb had a big day on the mound, and the San Francisco Giants defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers with a 4-1 victory Wednesday night in San Francisco.

Having already lost the 3 game set to their archrivals, the Giants picked up a win in the final game to avoid being swept, improving to 20-25 through their first 45 games. The win also snaps a 6 game losing streak against the Dodgers. The teams have 7 matchups remaining in the regular season.

After the first two innings were scoreless, it was Yastrzemski who broke the ice. Yastrzemski hit a two run home run to right field, giving the Giants a 2-0 lead on his 4th home run of the season. In the 6th inning, Heliot Ramos extended the Giants lead, hitting a double to center field that made it 3-0 as Thairo Estrada came around to score.

The shutout bid for the Giants came to an end in the late innings. Max Muncy was the one who got the Dodgers on the board, making it 3-1 as Freddie Freeman scored on his sac fly to left field in the 8th. In the bottom of the 8th, the Giants got that run back as Luis Matos hit an RBI single that brought home LaMonte Wade.

Webb said of the win that "I think we were kind of embarrassed about how we played the first two games. I felt that. We all felt that. I just wanted to go out there and give it all I could. Luckily, it turned out the way it did. There’s not many much-needed wins early on in the season. I thought tonight was a much-needed win. Hopefully this just gets us going."

It was Webb who toed the rubber for the Giants, turning in a 6 inning effort in which he allowed 3 hits and 3 walks while striking out 5 hitters. Sean Hjelle and Erik Miller finished the 7th before Tyler Rogers pitched the 8th and Camilo Doval pitched the 9th to get his 7th save of the season.

Elieser Hernandez got the start for the Dodgers after being called up, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits and a walk in 6 innings pitched. Eduardo Salazar came on in relief of Hernandez and pitched two scoreless innings with 3 strikeouts.

Hernandez said after the game that "They told me last night that I was going to start, and I just came here really positive that I was going to do my job tonight. The work I did with Will, we were on the same page the entire night. All of my pitches were working really well."

The Giants have a day off on Thursday before hosting the Colorado Rockies on Friday, with Kyle Harrison lined up to get the start. The Dodgers get into their weekend series Thursday night against the Cincinnati Reds, with Tyler Glasnow taking the mound.
