Losing streak over. Bryan De La Cruz homered, Jazz Chisholm Jr drove in the game winning run, and the Miami Marlins defeated the Cleveland Guardians with a 3-2 victory Friday night in Miami.

The last place Marlins beat the first place Guardians in the opener of their 3 game series, giving the Marlins their first win of June as they ended their 4 game losing streak. The Marlins were trailing by two entering their half of the 3rd inning before scoring 3 unanswered runs to win.

Miami manager Skip Schumaker said after the game that "It's a tough team to defend against because they have speed, they put the ball in play. Really well-managed team, too, because they don't make mistakes. You have to play clean baseball to win that game and to beat them, and tonight we did."

After a scoreless first two innings, the Guardians jumped ahead in the top of the 3rd. Brayan Rocchio gave the Guardians a 2-0 lead with a two run home run to left field, the first home run of his big league career. In the bottom half of the 3rd, De La Cruz got the Marlins on the board with a solo home run to center field.

The next batter after De La Cruz was Josh Bell. He replicated his teammates at bat, hitting a solo home run to left field as the Marlins went back to back, tying the game 2-2. It stayed that way all the way until the 8th, when Chisholm Jr put the Marlins ahead 3-2 with an RBI single that scored Jake Burger.

Ryan Weathers started for the Marlins, allowing two runs in 2 1/3 innings before leaving with an apparent finger issue. Emmanuel Ramirez pitched the next 2 2/3 innings before Andrew Nardi and AJ Puk each threw an inning. Calvin Faucher and Tanner Scott sealed the win, with Scott getting the win.

Logan Allen took the mound as the Guardians starting pitcher, allowing two runs on 4 hits and 3 walks in 6 innings pitched. Hunter Gaddis pitched a scoreless 7th inning before Cade Smith got the loss by pitching the 8th inning.

Cleveland manager Stephen Vogt said of the loss that "I didn't really necessarily think it was runners in scoring position, where I thought we fell short was when we were 1-for-5 in situational hitting opportunities. We didn't move the runner a couple times, and we had three opportunities with the runner on third, less than two and didn't get it done."

The middle game of the series is set for Saturday night. The Marlins go for the series win as Roddery Munoz takes the mound, while Ben Lively is the starter for the Guardians as they go for a series tying win.
