Joe Ryan came up with a strong start, Carlos Correa homered as part of a 3 RBI game, and the Minnesota Twins defeated the Oakland Athletics with a 6-2 victory Thursday night in Minneapolis.

After recording a season high 24 hits against the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday, the Twins produced 12 hits to open the series against the A's, picking up their 4th win in 5 games in the process. The trio of Correa, Royce Lewis, and Byron Buxton combined for 8 of the 12 hits.

Buxton said of the offense that "Obviously, it's a small sample size, so to be able to do this over the rest of the season is something to look forward to. I ain't going to sit here and lie: It's something to look forward to. It is. It is. I can't wait. This is what you want, you know?"

After a scoreless first inning, the A's staked themselves to a lead in the top of the second. Tyler Soderstrom connected on a two run home run to center field to make it a 2-0 game. In the bottom of the second, the Twins were able to tie the game. Buxton singled up the middle to score Correa and Trevor Larnach to make it 2-2.

Oakland manager Mark Kotsay said of Soderstrom's homer "Great at bat by Tyler. He got us on the board and gave us a lead. The at-bats have been better. He’s showing great signs of maturity and growth. He’s becoming the hitter that we know he can be."

In the 3rd inning, Correa gave the Twins a 3-2 lead, hitting an RBI single that scored Larnach. Buxton scored in the 4th inning when Austin Martin hit into a force out, doubling the Twins lead to 4-2. It stayed that way until the 7th, when Correa gave the Twins some more breathing room with a two run home run that made it a 6-2 game.

Ryan was able to back up the Twins offense on the mound, allowing two runs on 3 hits and a walk in 7 innings, getting the win while striking out 5 hitters. Griffin Jax worked a scoreless 8th inning and Jorge Alcala closed out the win with a clean 9th inning.

Luis Medina was the starting pitcher for the Athletics, getting tagged with the loss as he allowed 4 runs on 8 hits and one walk, picking up 3 strikeouts in 5 innings pitched. Vinny Nittoli pitched a scoreless 6th inning and Sean Newcomb handled the next two innings, allowing two runs on 3 hits and a walk.

Game two of the 4 game series is lined up for Friday night. Simeon Woods Richardson gets the start for the Twins as they look to win for the 5th time in 6 games, while the A's try to snap their 6 game losing streak with Mitch Spence taking the mound to start.
