This team keeps fighting. Lourdes Gurriel Jr homered, Ketel Marte hit the game winning homer, and the Arizona Diamondbacks rallied to defeat the New York Mets with a 5-4 victory Sunday afternoon in Queens.

Though still under .500 at 27-32, the D-Backs picked up their second straight win as they rallied past the Mets to split the 4 game series. They handed the Mets their 6th loss when leading after 8 innings since May 1, largely lifted by a two homer game by Marte.

Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said of the split that "We battled hard. We come home 2-4, and we're OK and we've been OK either way, but it's a big win, and we're going to feel good about traveling back home and sleep well and get ready for a very tough series against the Giants."

Marte delivered a leadoff home run in the first inning, homering to center field to make it 1-0 early. After Corbin Carroll was retired, Gurriel Jr hit a solo shot of his own to make it 2-0. Kevin Newman had an RBI groundout in the second to make it 3-0. Pete Alonso got the Mets on the board in the bottom of the 3rd with an RBI single.

Later in the 3rd, Brandon Nimmo tied the game 3-3 for the Mets, hitting a triple to right center field. Nimmo then scored on another triple, this one to center field from JD Martinez to put the Mets ahead by a 4-3 score. It stayed that way until the 9th, when Marte hit a two run home run to put the D-Backs ahead for good.

Arizona reliever Paul Sewald said of Marte that "He's so incredibly talented. When he’s on, he’s on like nobody in the league. So I hope people keep throwing lefties out there so he can hit righty. That’s great, and we’ll take it every time."

Brandon Pfaadt was the starter for the D-Backs, giving up 4 runs on 5 hits and two walks while striking out 8 hitters in 6 innings. Justin Martinez got the win by pitching two scoreless innings while Sewald got the save in the 9th, his 5th of the season.

Jose Quintana allowed 3 runs as he got through 4 innings in his start for the Mets. Dedniel Nunez pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings before Danny Young got the last two outs in the 6th. Reed Garrett and Adam Ottavino pitched a scoreless inning each before Jake Diekman allowed two runs and got just one out in the 9th. Sean Reid-Foley got the last two outs in the 9th.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said the loss was "Not good. We have to play better, especially here at home in front of our fan base. We have to turn the page. Now we go on a road trip, and we have to start getting some W’s."

Both teams start new series Monday night. Ryne Nelson starts for the D-Backs as they host the San Francisco Giants while Tylor Megill starts for the Mets as they travel to face the Washington Nationals.
