Heliot Ramos homered, Thairo Estrada was the hero of the night, and the San Francisco Giants defeated the Chicago Cubs with a 7-6 victory Monday night in Chicago.

Trailing 6-3 entering the 8th, a few big hits helped the Giants erase the deficit and rally to win their second straight game, sitting at 36-37 and second place in the NL West. The Giants also handed the Cubs their 4th loss in 5 games on a night where it was 93 degrees at first pitch.

Giants outfielder Mike Yastrzemski said after the game that "We've had a couple games like this, where we've come from behind. It’s huge for our confidence, knowing that we're never out of the game. Everyone was pretty calm and focused on what we had to do to win that game. So credit to all the guys that stayed in mentally and hung in there."

Yastrzemski got the Giants on the board in the 4th inning, hitting an RBI triple to make it a 1-0 lead. In the 6th, Michael Busch put the Cubs ahead 2-1 with a two run home run to center field. In the top of the 7th, the Giants took a 3-2 lead on a solo home run by Ramos and Matt Chapman scoring after Estrada was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Seiya Suzuki tied the game in the bottom of the 7th for the Cubs with an RBI double before a 3 run home run by Ian Happ put the Cubs ahead by a 6-3 score. Patrick Bailey cut into the deficit and made it 6-4 in the 8th with a solo home run. In the 9th, Estrada put the Giants ahead for good with a 3 run home run to left field.

Estrada said of his home run that "I had not hit a bigger home run than the one I hit today. I was very positive today. I showed up, I put the batting gloves on, I went to the cage. I got myself mentally ready. I had this feeling that something big was going to happen to me today."

Jordan Hicks was the starting pitcher for the Giants and provided 5 scoreless innings, striking out 4 hitters. Randy Rodriguez allowed 3 runs in 1 2/3 innings and Erik Miller gave up 3 more in 1 1/3 innings. Closer Camilo Doval picked up his 13th save of the season in 15 chances with a scoreless 9th inning.

Javier Assad allowed one run in 5 innings pitched in his start for the Cubs, striking out 7 hitters. Luke Little got one out in the 6th before Hayden Wesneski allowed two runs in one inning and Mark Leiter Jr allowed a run in 1 2/3 innings. Hector Neris got the loss in the 9th by allowing the Estrada home run.

Game two of the series is set for Tuesday night. The Giants go for their 3rd straight win as Logan Webb takes the mound, while the Cubs try to break out of their skid with Justin Steele getting the start.
