This team is never out of it. Kyle Schwarber homered, Nick Castellanos had a walk off hit, and the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the San Diego Padres with a 4-3 victory Tuesday night in Philadelphia.

In a rematch of the 2022 NLCS once again, the Phillies won the first two games of the series to secure the victory ahead of the series finale, though it's just their 5th win in 10 games. They handed Padres closer Robert Suarez his first blown save of the season.

After the first 3 innings were scoreless, Brandon Marsh gave the Phillies a 1-0 lead in the 4th as his RBI single scored Castellanos. In the 6th inning, Luis Campusano put the Padres ahead 2-1 with a two run home run to center field. Later in the inning, Jurickson Profar extended the lead to 3-1 with a single that scored Tyler Wade.

The lead stayed 3-1 until the 8th inning, when Schwarber hit a solo home run to right field that cut the deficit to 3-2. In the 9th inning, Bryson Stott delivered the game tying hit for the Phillies with an RBI single that scored Bryce Harper. Castellanos then became the hero for the Phillies with a double to right field and Alec Bohm crossed the plate to secure the win.

Harper said of the 9th inning rally "That's one of the best closers in the game. He's got great numbers. We had some pretty good at-bats right there to jump on him and be able to get that win today and win the series, which is huge for us."

Aaron Nola was the starting pitcher for the Phillies, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits and a walk in 6 innings, striking out 6 hitters. In relief, a bullpen trio of Orion Kerkering, Matt Strahm, and Jeff Hoffman sealed the win for the Phillies, with Hoffman getting credited with the win.

Michael King lasted 4 2/3 innings in his start for the Padres, allowing one run on 6 hits and 3 walks. Yuki Matsui and Adrian Morejon each pitched 2/3 of an inning before Jeremiah Estrada pitched a scoreless inning. Wandy Peralta allowed a run in 2/3 of an inning before Suarez allowed the two runs in the 9th.

San Diego manager Mike Shildt said of the loss "It’s hard to articulate; it clearly hurts. You scratch and claw, do everything we possibly could to win a game. We did a lot of good things right, and the end wasn’t good enough. This was shaping up to be a really nice team win with a lot of contributions from everybody. Those contributions don't count as much when you don't bring it home."

The series wraps up on Wednesday afternoon. The Phillies go for the sweep behind starting pitcher Ranger Suarez, while Matt Waldron starts for the Padres as they try to avoid being swept.
