How about a little fire to this one? Donovan Solano drove in a pair of runs, Jurickson Profar hit a grand slam, and the San Diego Padres defeated the Washington Nationals with a 9-7 victory Tuesday night in San Diego.

Profar delivered the walk off hit for the Padres over the Nationals on Monday, with Profar saying he felt disrespected and making gestures towards the Nationals bench while celebrating the win, as they intentionally walked Luis Arraez to get to him. Profar later said he was pumping up the crowd.

Once game two started, Nationals catcher Keibert Ruiz had words with Profar at home plate, leading to Manny Machado stepping in and the benches clearing. After that, Profar was hit by Nationals starting pitcher MacKenzie Gore, leading to Padres manager Mike Shildt getting ejected. However, Profar got the last laugh with his grand slam that lifted the Padres to a win.

Ruiz said of his words with Profar "We were just having a conversation about what he did yesterday, but it was nothing really crazy. We’re not going to hit him because that’s bad for him, he’s having a good season, he’s having a great year. But I feel like I’ve just got to let him know he’s got to show us respect."

After the benches cleared, Machado greeted Gore with a two run home run in the first to give the Padres the lead. In the 3rd inning, the Nationals took a 4-2 lead on an RBI single by Jacob Young, an RBI triple by Lane Thomas, and a two run homer by Jesse Winker. In the 5th, the Padres took a 5-4 lead on an RBI single by Jake Cronenworth and a two run single off the bat of Solano.

Profar broke the game open in the 6th for the Padres, cranking a grand slam down the right field line to make it a 9-4 ballgame. In the 8th, a sac fly by Joey Meneses and an RBI double by Harold Ramirez got the Nationals a pair of runs to cut the deficit to 9-6. CJ Abrams made it 9-7 in the 9th with an RBI single.

Machado said of the nature of the game that "It’s more like a playoff game when you have that atmosphere. Both teams are going at it. That’s fun. You’re just going back and forth at it, trying to be the bigger boss. It’s good for the game."

Adam Mazur was the starting pitcher for the Padres, responsible for 4 runs on 6 hits and a walk in 5 innings pitched. A bullpen quartet of Wandy Peralta, Adam Kolek, Jeremiah Estrada, and Robert Suarez locked down the win for the Padres, with Suarez picking up his 20th save of the season.

In his start for the Nationals, Gore was tagged for 5 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks, getting just one strikeout in 5 innings. Dylan Floro allowed 3 runs and didn't get an out before Derek Law allowed one in 2/3 of an inning. Jordan Weems worked 1 1/3 scoreless innings after Law left. Tanner Rainey pitched a scoreless 8th inning.

The series will wrap up Wednesday afternoon. Dylan Cease is the starting pitcher for the Padres as they go for the series sweep, while rookie DJ Herz takes the mound for the Nationals as they try to salvage a game.
