Bombs away in Canada. Vladimir Guerrero Jr drove in a pair of runs, George Springer homered twice, and the Toronto Blue Jays rolled over the New York Yankees with a 9-2 victory Thursday night in Toronto.

After losing 7 straight games, the Blue Jays have won two in a row, including the series opener against the Yankees, who have now lost 4 straight games and have 9 losses in 11 games. Springer was the star for the Blue Jays, homering twice and driving un 6 runs.

Toronto manager John Schneider said of Springer's day "Coming off the three-hit night in Boston with the homer and then tonight, it’s what we’ve known from George. It couldn’t happen to a better guy in the spots he was in tonight. Those were just great swings. He deserves a lot of credit, him and the hitting coaches, for continuing to grind and work. He’s been a great player for so long."

Guerrero Jr got the Blue Jays started in the first inning, driving in Bo Bichette with an RBI double to give Toronto a 1-0 lead early. Justin Turner then drove in Isiah Kiner-Falefa with an infield single, doubling the lead to 2-0. Springer capped off the inning with a 3 run home run to left field, making it a 5-0 game.

The very next inning, Springer broke the game wide open for the Blue Jays, hitting his second 3 run home run of the night, going to center field to make it 8-0. It stayed that way until the 5th inning, when Trent Grisham got the Yankees on the board and made it 8-2 with a two run home run. In the 6th, Guerrero Jr hit a solo home run to make it a 9-2 final.

Springer said of his two homer day "I know that things get judged by results, but I feel like I’ve hit the ball hard, I just feel like I’ve hit the ball at people a ton. At the end of the day, I need to keep going. I need to keep working and doing one thing a day to help this team win. Whether that’s offense, defense, a walk, getting hit by a pitch. I will do anything I can."

Jose Berrios was the starting pitcher for the Blue Jays, picking up the win as he allowed two runs on two hits and 3 walks in 7 innings, striking out 8 hitters. Zach Pop struck out two in a scoreless 8th inning while Bowden Francis closed out the win in the 9th.

Carlos Rodon had his 3rd straight start that went sideways for the Yankees, allowing 8 runs on 10 hits and one walk while still striking out 8 hitters in 5 innings. Phil Bickford allowed a run in 1 1/3 innings before Jake Cousins pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said of Rodon's recent struggles that "Clearly, some teams game-planning are doing a good job against him. While he’s wearing it right now and going through it, it’s also kind of a gutsy effort to not want out, to want to finish through five, especially with what we’re going through as a team right now."

Game two of the series is set for Friday night. Yusei Kikuchi will take the mound for the Blue Jays as they go for their 3rd straight win, while Marcus Stroman starts for the Yankees as they try to snap their losing streak.
