Another rivalry series has come to an end. Matt Chapman homered and drove in 3 runs, Patrick Bailey had 3 RBI's, and the San Francisco Giants defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers with a 10-4 win Sunday afternoon in San Francisco.

Every starter for the Giants had a hit as the team had 11 extra base hits on the day, including 10 doubles as they won a series against the Dodgers for the first time since 2022. The 10 doubles are the most the Giants have had in a game since 1912, when they were still in New York at the Polo Grounds.

San Francisco manager Bob Melvin said after the game that "We're resilient. After tough losses, we come out and do stuff like that almost every time. We’ve got to roll some games together leading up to the break. This was a good start in what is kind of a tough stretch right now."

Chapman scored Jorge Soler in the first inning with a sac fly to make it 1-0 Giants. In the second, an RBI double by Soler and a sac fly that scored Tyler Fitzgerald made it a 3-0 lead for the Giants. In the 3rd, David Villar doubled in a run to make it 4-0. In the 5th, Bailey hit a two run double, Heliot Ramos had an RBI double, and Chapman belted a 3 run home run to make it 9-0 Giants.

In the 5th, the Dodgers got on the board as Chris Taylor hit a solo home run to make it a 9-1 game. Taylor made it 9-2 in the 7th with a double to right center field that scored Gavin Lux. In the 8th, Bailey got the Giants their 10th run with an RBI double that scored Ramos. Austin Barnes hit a two run double in the 9th for the Dodgers to make it a 10-4 game.

Spencer Bivens made his first career start in this one for the Giants, pitching 5 innings of one run ball while getting 3 strikeouts. Taylor Rogers pitched a scoreless 6th before Landen Roupp allowed 3 runs in 2 2/3 innings. Tyler Rogers got the last out of the game in the 9th.

Bivens said of his strong start "I've been waiting my whole life for that. It’s really special. To be able to help the team win, to put us in a good position to help the bullpen, whatever they have me do, I’ll do it. I’m just happy I was able to help them out."

James Paxton got hit hard, giving up 9 runs on 12 hits and two walks in 4 innings in his start for the Dodgers. Michael Petersen delivered two scoreless innings after Paxton left, Yohan Ramirez had a scoreless inning of his own, and Evan Phillips allowed one run in one inning.

Barnes, Paxton's catcher, said of his start that "I think they had a pretty good plan off him and I don’t think we adjusted fast enough. Kind of started going to the curveball and changeup a little bit more the third inning or so. But I felt like they hunted up pretty well. Obviously he throws the ball up a lot. Probably should’ve went against his strengths a little bit sooner."

Both teams start new series Tuesday night after having Monday off. Hayden Birdsong is lined up to start for the Giants in a road tilt with the Atlanta Braves, while the Dodgers have Bobby Miller set to start at home against a division rival in the Arizona Diamondbacks.
