Signs of life? Wenceel Perez homered and had two RBI's, Riley Greene drove in the winning run, and the Detroit Tigers rallied past the Cincinnati Reds with a 5-3 victory Saturday in Cincinnati.

The Tigers won their second game in a row for the first time since June 3 and secured their first series win since June 23 all at once, beating the Reds to improve to 41-48 on the season. They were able to do so on the back of a 5 run rally late in the game to get just their 4th win in 10 games.

Detroit manager AJ Hinch said of the win "What a fun win. You know, we talk about winning series all the time, and this was the first series in a while where we feel really good about where we're at. Very proud of these dudes, and we'll see where it takes us."

After the first 4 innings were scoreless, Tyler Stephenson gave the Reds a 2-0 lead in the 5th inning, hitting a double to center field that scored Nick Martini and Spencer Steer. The score would remain that way until the 8th, when Perez got the Tigers on the board. He hit a pinch hit two run homer to right field, tying the game 2-2 on his 5th home run of the season.

Perez said of his game tying homer "That fired me up. Just tried to get ready for a pitch in the middle, and then I got it. When Parker hit the double, I was just ready for it. We never quit. We just started to get our pitches."

Later in the inning, Mark Canha drove in Matt Vierling with a double to right field, putting the Tigers ahead by a 3-2 score. Greene then extended the lead to 4-2 as Andy Ibanez scored on his groundout. Carson Kelly then doubled in Zach McKinstry to make it a 5-2 lead. Steer got one back in the 9th for the Reds with a solo home run to center field.

Alex Faedo pitched the first two innings for the Tigers, not allowing a run before Beau Brieske gave up two in 2 1/3 innings. Tyler Holton pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings, Shelby Miller had two shutout frames, Jason Foley allowed a run, and Andrew Chafin picked up the save in the 9th, his first of the year.

Hunter Greene gave the Reds 7 shutout innings on the mound, striking out 7 hitters while allowing 3 hits and two walks. In the 8th inning, Fernando Cruz was responsible for 3 runs scored and Sam Moll gave up two of his own. Lucas Sims and Justin Wilson also pitched.

Cincinnati manager David Bell said after the game that "We love being in that spot after what Hunter gave to us all day. He was outstanding, of course. We had a rested bullpen with all of our guys who typically close it out. Give the Tigers credit. They were laying off Fernando’s split."

The series finale is set for Sunday afternoon. Eyeing a series sweep, the Tigers give the start to ace Tarik Skubal. Graham Ashcraft takes the mound as the Reds starter as they try to salvage a game and avoid the sweep.
