It's all for the kids in Williamsport. Jace Jung had the game tying hit, Parker Meadows had the winning hit, and the Detroit Tigers defeated the New York Yankees with a 3-2 extra innings victory Sunday night in Williamsport.

The first pitch relay between Little Leaguers, the famed Williamsport slide in the outfield, spectating a Little League World Series game, and riding on the bus with Little League Players, the teams were reminded of the joys they had playing the game as kids by doing it in front of kids on the big stage.

Detroit reliever Alex Faedo said after the game "I think sometimes you get into the day in, day out of baseball, it became a job, a business. Coming here and seeing all the smiles, the passion, the love for the game, kind of like refreshes you a little bit. So it's really cool to see these guys, playing their hardest all the time, and kind of reminds you why you do it."

After the Tigers lost the first game of the series to the Yankees on Friday, the Tigers won on Saturday before the teams left for Williamsport for Sunday's game, where the Tigers won to win the series, improving to 61-64 on the season. They didn't score until the 9th, but they scored when it mattered.

The first 5 innings went scoreless until the Yankees decided to break the deadlock in the 6th inning. Gleyber Torres got them on the board when he scored on a wild pitch, making it a 1-0 game. The score stayed the game until the bottom of the 9th inning, when Jung tied the game 1-1 with a single to left field with the Tigers down to their last out.

DJ Lemahieu immediately gave the Yankees a 2-1 lead in the top of the 10th inning, singling to right field to score automatic runner Anthony Volpe. The Tigers did the same in the bottom of the inning when Zach McKinstry hit a pinch hit RBI single to score Trey Sweeney. McKinstry then scored on a single to left center field by Meadows to give the Tigers the walk off win.

Meadows said of the comeback win "It felt good. All year this team, we fight ‘til the end, and you saw it tonight. Credit to JJ, getting a knock there, and then good defense in the 10th, and then Z-Mac stole the base and got into scoring position. And I was just trying to put a ball in play and help the team win."

Tarik Skubal allowed one run on 3 hits and 4 walks with 5 strikeouts in 6 innings in his start for the Tigers. Brenan Hanifee, Will Vest, and Shelby Miller each pitched a scoreless inning before Beau Brieske allowed a run in the 10th but still ended up with the win.

Marcus Stroman pitched 6 shutout innings in his start for the Yankees, striking out 5 hitters. Luke Weaver and Tommy Kahnle pitched a scoreless inning before Clay Holmes blew his 10th save of the season in the 9th. Mark Leiter Jr got the blown save and loss by allowing two runs in the 10th.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said "Look, anytime you lose, it sucks. It’s hard traveling home now and you’re right there, ready to grab two out of three on a weekend where you didn’t score a lot of runs. That’s part of the game, part of the grind; that’s the tough part of it. But there’s also memories of the experience and getting to be here. You try to keep that perspective, too."

The Tigers travel to Chicago to take on the Chicago Cubs, with no announced starter for the Tuesday series opener. The Yankees start a series against the Cleveland Guardians at home Tuesday night, with Luis Gil set to start the first game.
