Shea Langeliers homered twice, one of which was the game winner, to lead the Oakland Athletics to a 5-4 walk off victory against the Seattle Mariners Monday in Oakland.

The win moved the A's to a 60-78 record and started a division series on the right foot after a series loss to the Texas Rangers. The A's matched their win total from 2022 and have exceeded their mark from last year by 10 as well, thanks to the power of Langeliers, the big star in the win.

Oakland manager Mark Kotsay said of Langeliers "He has this energy about him. It’s quiet, though. If you don’t know the kid, you’d think he’s probably upset every day. But he’s really determined to go out. He loves to play the game. He loves to be back there. He doesn’t ask for days off. He takes care of his body really well, and that’s important to make sure he’s ready to play."

Cal Raleigh gave the Mariners the lead right off the bat in the first inning, hitting a two run home run to right field, his 28th longball of the season. In the top of the 3rd, Victor Robles scored on a sac fly from Julio Rodriguez, making it a 3-0 game. Brent Rooker got the A's on the board in the bottom of the inning with an RBI double to score Lawrence Butler.

After Rooker's RBI double, Langeliers gave the A's a 4-3 lead with a 3 run home run to left field, his 24th homer of the season. Justin Turner tied the game for the Mariners in the 6th with an RBI single to left field. The score stayed 4-4 until the last half of the 9th, when Langeliers took a pitch from Austin Voth and deposited it into the left field seats for the 5-4 win.

Langeliers said of his walk off shot "I was just hoping it was going to stay fair. Walking out of the box and watching it, it stayed through. In that moment, I didn’t really know what to do. I was just full of excitement. Running around the bases, you feel like a little kid."

Osvaldo Bido was the starting pitcher for the A's and allowed 4 runs on 6 hits and a walk in 5 1/3 innings. TJ McFarland finished the 6th before Grant Holman, Michel Otanez, and Tyler Ferguson each delivered a scoreless inning to help the A's get the win.

Starting for the Mariners and allowing 4 runs on 4 hits and a walk in 6 innings was Logan Gilbert, who also struck out 9 hitters. JT Chargois and Collin Snider each worked a scoreless inning before Voth gave up the walk off blast to Langeliers in the 9th.

The second of 4 games in the series is on tap for Tuesday night. JT Ginn gets the start for the A's as they go for two wins in a row, while the Mariners send Luis Castillo to the mound in search of a series tying win.
