Hicks gets extension from Yankees


Well, the Yankees certainly like to hang around the luxury tax threshold. Ten days after they extended ace Luis Severino, they have just agreed to a 7 year, $70 million extension with OF Aaron Hicks, the team announced. Jack Curry of YES network disclosed the financial terms of Hicks' contract. Hicks appeared in 137 games last season, and hit .248 with 27 Home Runs and 79 RBI. Hicks was set to be a free agent at the end of this season. Hicks has hit .244 with 50 Home Runs and 162 RBI since being acquired from the Minnesota Twins in 2015. Hicks is a good defender, with plus 16 defensive runs saved since 2016, and has only made eight errors in his career. The Pinstripes have had a busy offseason, extending Severino and Hicks, and re-signing CC Sabathia, Brett Gardner, and Zach Britton. The front office has also signed Troy TulowitzkiAdam Ottavino, and DJ Lemahieu, as well as trading for James Paxton.
